DDR2 Vs DDR3

Question is simple enough DDR2 or DDR3?
Is it worth paying the extra to get DDR3 now or will DDR2 suffice for a while?
Another question are mobo's able to go from DDR2-DDR3 or do you need a new one?

DDR3 has looser cas but has higher speeds and bandwidth especially in trip channel kits.

it isn't much more expensive to be honest with you (dual channel kits)

the G.Skill Pi 1066 4gb kit cost about $90 and the 4gb ddr3 kit cost $125. so 35 more

1. you will need a new mobo...
2. ddr2 is fine but ddr3 is faster
3. its not really worth it for LGA 775 IMO, unless yuou're using a high-end 45nm quad. I.e. dont get a ddr3 board and ddr3 for your e4400 or your q6600

ddr3 makes extreme OCing alot easier because it eliminates memory OCing headaches.(needing ram that does 1200mhz+)

lol, i believe that is a higher end ddr2, and a lower end ddr3 (i kno they are both pi)
hes right tho, there isnt that large of a price difference, DDR3 is really the only real money spent on a computer that you can call an "investment".

There is some benefit using twin 2Gig pk of DDR3 1600 at CL7 if found at 1.65V over DDR2 1066 at CL5 (for example). However it's not worth buying at their current asking price because you not only need DDR3 ram but a capable motherboard (for those who have DDR2 motherboards). IMO some benefits are found in games that require more vram then available on your video card. There are other benefits like winrar and other programs that use ram but, the price for it outweighs the benefits IMO. Once the price starts coming down for both motherboards that support DDR3 and DDR3 ram itself will an investment be worth it.

I did a DDR2 vs DDR3 test because I kept on getting the same questions over and over. "Is it worth upgrading to DDR3", "Will I see a performance gain?", etc...

And after testing in Far Cry 2, Crysis and COD4 I can honestly say. NO! DDR3 isn't worth the extra $. Sure, you WILL see higher numbers on memory-tests but when you're gaming on 1680x1050 there is no framerate difference at all. Ok, here and there I think there was 1-2fps difference between DDR2 1066Mhz and DDR3 1600Mhz but seriously, why spend extra money for 2fps????

Since more and more people are buying 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 monitors, I say no freakin way.

More bandwith? Screw it, you're better off saving the money for the next DECENT upgrade like a GPU...
