DDR3 or DDR2?

I am pretty confused whether I should get my system now. My purposed buy had PhII X4 920 which supports only DDR2 memory. My real dilemma is whether to buy this pc now or wait for another 2 months for DDR3 cpus and mobos to lower prices.

I am now running on the antique P4 processor 1.6Ghz. So its really hard to wait. Guide me please. The cause for confusion is actually this one http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2343575,00.asp

It shows DDR3 performs significantly better even now. I feel like I am spending my 900$ to get me an outdated system. Please enlighten me.

As of right now DDR3 is only a slight performance Gain, but if I was you I would wait for the new 955 phenom II that supports DDR3 it's releases on April 20th. DDR3 is also coming down in price more and more.

I would wait for DDr3 even tho you can still use the 955 on a AM2+ mobo with DDR2
DDR3 shows it has some improvements over DDR2

right now i have a
940
A79A-S
8gb Dominator ram
4870x2
and it works great!

but i will probably upgrade to a 955 with and am3 board since i have some ddr3 sticks
if i didnt have the ddr3 i would still get the 955 and swap it out for the 940

o btw i started with the 9950BE on this board

955's are gonna be 250$ USD, I think you should just get the DDR2 set, but grab an AM3 CPU like the 925 or 720.

I am from India and biggest loss we have is absence of something like newegg.

Here PhII X4 920 costs around 11K(220$) and HD 4850 512mb DDR3 costs around 9K(180K). How I wish I could buy from the US............
