Whatever is cheaper. If you aren't planning to overclock the memory or tweaking the memory, I don't think it will matter much. Also if you are playing at a higher resolution, you will be GPU bound. Thus making whatever you pick, a very small factor.

Frankly I’d buy whatever is cheaper and apply the savings to a better graphics card or monitor. Those will provide more benefit to the gaming experience on a wide selection of titles.

I’d also buy a $7 OEM copy of Windows 10 Pro and apply the remaining $132 to my Steam account. But that’s just me.

Otherwise that’s a sweet rig for your nephew.

I like the error correction in DDR5, but that's just me and would only fall back on DDR4 if the saving was significant.

IMO, we are still very VERY early on into ddr5 tech. Save your cash, let it mature a little more.

I rather like the balanced view of many members here; most people would be salivating for the new tech.

Me, I'm still happy on DDR3

At QHD you could go for a 6900XT and save around $50 for 1% performance loss in W1zzard's test suite.

Also, note that the DDR5 parts linked support OC more than the DDR4 parts.

My $.02

I was thinking he will probably utilize DLSS and Reflex with the first person shooter games he plays such as CoD and Apex Legends.

unless the 12700k(f)'s significantly more expensive i'd go w/ that since locked SA voltages makes higher freq xmp like, a total pain in the ass

DDR5

It will be useful for further platforms.

Consider the CS3040 (with heatsink) for a few dollars more. The 2TB model has a 3600TBW / 5 Year warranty. Solid drive.

DDR5.

Raptor lake 20% increased performance running DDr5 over DDr4.

Also, Raptor Lake will support 5600mhz vs Alder Lake at only 4800mhz Ddr5.

Reputable source 20% increase rumors.

Here's the thing. It's like with video card memory. Screw DDR4 go with DDR5 my 2¢

The board comes with a heatsink and the 2130 comes with a five year warranty. It's in the links.

Yeah, I did read that. The only catch is that the TBW listed for the CS2130 2TB is 450. The CS3040 is also a Gen 4, so faster reads/writes and uses DDR4 cache vs DDR3 on the CS2130.

I only listed the heat sink version as the no heat sink version was out of stock.

1. Go with whatever is cheapest.

2. It Depends on what you are using your rig for.

In my Case I have 64 GB DDR4 PC 4000 CL 14-15-15-35 Samsung B-die memory. I have underclocked it to PC 3600 14-14-14-34 for better wattage efficiency with no real loss to performance. 7.5ns vs 7.8 It does not make any sense to update to DDR 5200 atm.

I was always taught that more good Memory is better. I can say in my case I saw a REAL performance increase for what I do when I went from 32GB to 64GB.

Lastly I can always sell my sticks later on when the price of DDR5 ram is low enough to make the switch. Or put it in my back up computer.
But I have options and you may not so I'm just posting what I would do.

If you can afford the additional $60 for DDR5, I would say do DDR5!

Edit: Be sure to update the bios immediately after you assemble.
