Dead pixels - RMA or not to RMA?

I would absolutely send the Monitor back. Those Pixels will always bother you, now you know that they are there.
SAME. I scan every new monitor for dead pixels right away and am not shy about returning them if they aren't perfect.

Once I find a dead pixel, it is a constant distraction... no matter what I'm doing.

I just watched a Youtube video in full screen with the outright intention to look for the two dead subpixels... I couldn't see them. The only time they're visible seems really to be when I've got a solid red fill.

I can also spot them on a white fill if I'm looking really hard (they appear to be cyan, which is hardly distinguishable from white on such a high PPI display).

As for the flicker, I updated my GPU driver to the latest 23.10.1. I didn't think it would do anything, but the Youtube video I just watched didn't seem to flicker as much as it has before. :wtf:

I'm just over the 14-day grace, but I think Amazon has a 30-day return window on this one. I'll need to check.

Normally, I wouldn't accept any dead pixels, either, but these are only the red sub-pixels, and they're completely undetectable under normal use, even if I'm looking for them. This is only why I'm not sure now.

Interesting.

Mine is June 2023, so I guess it's just bad luck. It's been a while since I last had any device with pixel errors on its screen, although that one (also a monitor) was a lot worse (3 bright pixels if I remember right).

Mine is Feb 22

You should check out AOC then my 24G2 has pip and it was a cheap monitor and IPS/144Hz to boot

Thats not a 1440 UW monitor though

Also one of the best 1440 UW monitor is the Alienware AW3423DW which is a Dell

I wouldn't buy OLED. I'm too scared of burn-in.

I'm happy with this Dell, to be honest. :)

Considering Amazon's current 1-2 month delivery time on it, and no ETA on the AOC I mentioned above at Scan, I think I'll just keep it for now. It's probably not worth waiting months for a replacement only because of two partially dead pixels that I cannot see in a normal image (game or movie) anyway. If all else fails, I still have my 24" Samsung. :ohwell:

I mean if you a personally happy with the display and it is not a deal breaker nothing wrong with keeping it and if a bunch of pixels start dying warranty should have your back.

I just picked up the G8 OLED ultrawide only have about an hours hands on but it seems amazing..... Your UW threads actually pushed me towards it lol don't regret it either not normally much of an ultrawide person. Won't be able to really mess around with it till November though after I move.

I keep looking where the dead subpixels are... but don't see them unless the image is plain red or white. I guess it's kind of like when your new car gets it first scratch. It keeps bothering you for a while, but you learn to shrug it off eventually. :ohwell:

Wow, congrats! :) I don't know how I inspired you, as I only just got my Dell a couple of weeks ago and already started two threads about its minor issues.

It's still a great monitor, though. I hope you'll like yours, too. :)

If a form factor can win you over a jaded 1080p60 gamer I figured it was time to give it another honest try. No monitor is perfect though so having minor issues is not the end of the world on a product 2x-3x more expensive I would probably be pist though. Even my G8 sucks with AMD cards which I already knew haven't tested that myself and maybe it has been fixed but I have other options if so.

To be honest, a wide FOV was the only thing that could ever win me over. I was happy with 1080p and I didn't feel the need for high refresh. But I don't regret it. :)

Why does the G8 suck with AMD?

AMD cards handle HDR poorly on it or it handles HDR poorly with AMD cards depending on how you want to look at it. With an Nvidia card it is flawless though and one of the best OLED UW.

How does it handle it poorly? Sorry for the million questions - it's just that my Dell is HDR400 capable, and your answer could tell me why I'm not seeing much difference between normal and the different HDR modes (I've still got great colours, though). :ohwell:

On a monitor like yours hdr really isn't hdr you'd have to see it on a fald with a ton of zones or Oled. No knock on your monitor it's just not currently possible on edge lit or monitors with very few dimming zones.

Good video that shows the amd issues on my monitor.

I have a very faint burn-in after 2000 hours of use. It's somewhat susceptible to a static hud that is very bright (It needs tons of hours.)

But, the overall uniformity will still be better than any other panel even with burn-in. (As long as it isn't REALLY bad.)

I would check out Rtings longevity test for more information.

Do you think it's worth the hassle? It took me two weeks to notice this, and the replacement unit might be even worse.
It depends. Dead pixels can be like Trinitron wires: you can not notice them for months, but once you do, they may be all you see.
Fwiw, my Dell also came with dead subpixels. I sent it in, got a fully working one instead. But if you really, really have no issue with the dead subpixels, it's probably not worth the hassle.

I'm gonna ask what Amazon's return policy is when it comes to dead subpixels, but I'm sort of leaning towards leaving it as it is. I can only see them in a 100% red image, and they're not in front of me at all.
within 30 days you can swap it until you get a good one even just saying that has faulty problem without saying it is a dead pixel. After 30 days will come up the garantee of the producer ...

I'd exchange/return it - especially since you just got it.
Not sure if the policy differs for exchange but if it's a return that will be "high value" and take a little longer (not a lot, but worth mentioning).

Idk I have a really bad experience with my only monitor rma. It was an acer, and they simply refused to do anything to it. I sent it back 3 times and every time it was worse, its like they just banged on it a few times and sent it back without testing. I just gave up and luckily the store took it back even though I was past the refund window ( because of the 3 rmas) and I bought a dell monitor instead which to their credit, I am still using today, like 7 years later.

Wow! What retailer did you buy from. That's pretty amazing customer care.

IIRC, in 2009, I panicked briefly about the Trinitron wires, LOL. The monitor was OK. I got it used in June, 2009, IIRC. In 2015, however, it looked like it needed a little service, suspected a bad cap or a bad solder joint, because it would have glitches until warmed up. (from 2001, checked on the back) There would be green lines, IIRC. It always looked excellent when warmed up.

I can't remember the name. It was some small mom and pop in Vancouver. And yeah, it was nice of them to clean acer's mess, but I did pretty much have to beg.

2000 hours is basically nothing! :( I spend a lot of time on Youtube, reading TPU and idling on the desktop, so yeah, OLED is a no-go for me.

True. I read somewhere that HDR400 isn't really true HDR, it's just emulated within the monitor. Not that I mind, though. :)
