Dell Latitude D530 - Core 2 Quad?

Can I fit a Core 2 Quad Q9000 Mobile processor in my Dell D530 Latitude business laptop?

Dropped this thing and broke my dvd drive and some of the plastic housing. The prices on parts for this are pretty cheap, $10 for a new plastic bottom and $10 for a dvd drive. Does anyone know if the dell motherboard supports a quad core? I have a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz 65nm T7250 Merom. Socket P 478. This laptop is pretty capable for being from 2007. Also, is it possible to add a discrete gpu to it? I don't see any location for expansion but I know some of the laptops back then had expansion slot for a discrete radeon.

The OS is Vista 32 bit. I have 2x2GB ddr2 660 ram and a 250gb hd.

Wouldn't think so. They don't work with D6xx machines, no reason they should with the "consumer" editions. T9xxx CPU's probably work though, although I would not consider it to be worth it.

Dell doesn't do that sort of thing with GPU's afaik.

But yeah I like the D6xx machines, especially with the higher resolution. Had a D610 with 1400x1050 res and it was beeeeautiful.

I don't have a consumer edition d530, this is a business outlet refurb I bought years ago. What CPU is the best possible? I am really curious.

everything is pointing toward no quad core. but nobody has tried it... worth a go

Yeah I misfrased it. Entry level businness. My D610 damaged my head.

Seriously though, that chipset officially supports 533 and 800Mhz FSB, which means no quads. If you have one lying around, try it, but at least here you would probably have to shell out more than €100 for a mobile quad. So it's an expensive gamble. BIOS might not support it. The mobile workstation Precision M6300 didn't have quads, and it had the same chipset.

Thanks man, guess its not worth it. Was kinda hoping I could maybe set a net on ebay and wait for a good deal but I don't think I'll bother.

I used a few D5xx machines at several of the job's I've worked at, they are very reliable and practically indestructible. I wish it had HDMI or DVI out.

aaaaahhh I was watchin this thread, I have an M6300 and was in the same predicament, did upgrade the gpu to a quadro 3600m(8800GTX) a while back but my cpu still sux kinda, guess it might be time for a new laptop.

Gotcha, yeah I think I'm gonna keep this thing around just as a surfer. I got the "new" dvd drive in and waiting on a "new" plastic shell.
