The package that I bought my ram off said 2Gb Dual Channel Kit 2x1 GB and it comes with 2 sticks. I look at the OCZ Value ram and the timings it says on it is PC 4200 I believe and the speeds are 5-5-5-12. that is what it says.. But looking at this I think it shows I got ripped off?

Wasn't it supposed to be dual channel? I look at my bios and I put the ram in different slots and its still 1024 single channel..

Im going to another store to buy some OCZ Titanium tommorow I think..

are those timings real bad for DDR2..?

also, whoever has a P5WD2-E Premium motherboard can you walk me through tightening the timings in the bios? thanks.

I am not an expert on RAM, but I have seen some problems like this.
First off what is your system, if you have AMD make sure that you dont have all 4 slots filled. Also on some motherboards, it seems that if you put the memory in some slots (or patterns) it will only go to single channel instead of dual channel. As for the latencies, motherboards usually have slightly higher ratings than the postings.

there are four slots, its INTEL by the way

AS FOLLOWS: | yellow| |black |yellow |black |

those are the PCI slots for my ram and I have my ram on both the yellow.... it shouldnt matter... isnt colour better than side by side?? why would they make different colours ..?

For 'Dual Channel' the RAM usually goes in the 1st & 3rd slot so by looking at your diagram you should have your RAM in the yellow memory banks..

PS: add your 'System Specs' to your profile as this helps others see what youve got and enables them to help you more/faster ;)

I'm not sure if I'm talking out my ass, but if you are running the ram at higher than rated speed (I see your FSB at 212), and the By SPD option is used, it will usually relax timings depending on what the ram says it should run at - and you need to manually set them, plus probably boost voltage if it's failing.

Talking out my ass?

As for why it's not running in dual channel, I don't know. As other said, make sure you are populating the same color banks, and they shoul be in slot 0 and slot 2 typically.

Edit: I didn't realize you are only seeing 1 GB - try reseating the ram, sometimes they are a bitch to get in properly.

Try what Sasqui said and reseat the RAM because its strange that your system is only showing 1024 (I think thats why its not running in dual channel because you need 2x sticks installed for dual)

If reseating it doesnt work you must have a dodgy stick of RAM :( but I would remove them both and try them individually in your system, maybe in each RAM slot to make sure its not your mobo thats got the problem)

You either have a bad stick of Ram, a Bad memory slot on the motherboard, or bios options need to be enabled. First try what they said about making sure its seated properly. If it is seated, try switching the ram but use the same color slots. Just plug stick 1 where stick 2 is, and put stick 2 where stick 1 was.

Boot and see if that works.

If not, then try using each ram stick alone. If one of the stick fails to boot by itself, or does boot but is totally unstable, then its bad ram.

IF everthing above works, meaning each stick worked by themselves, then its the motherboard setting within the bios. You will need to look in your instruction manual and see how to enable dual channel, and which slots you need to use.

A lot of Intel boards use 1&2, 3&4 for dual channel, versus AMD 1&3, 2&4.

Yeah I know they are. Still, I have seen intel boards that do this.

Check the install man. that came with the mobo, it will absolutely tell you which are the correct slots.

Or tell me the exact Motherboard you have.

Yea agreed... Like Everyone knows im no ram expert either, but can "tightening" the speeds really make it a better improvement, Kind of a noob question I just need to learn more about the uses of ram.
