Disable Turbo - What does it do?

I'm trying to figure out what that option does. Does use Windows Settings, UEFI Switches, or does it talk to hardware directly through the driver?
Reason behind it is, i've several Lenovo Thinkpads and after deploying them with an MDT generated Image, Turbo is always disabled. I've ruled out the Image itself, cause this also happens with a naked Win11.iso from MS.
And since there is no option to enable/disable it in the UEFI i'm currently forced to run TS, which is another piece of Software that needs elevated rights, which i want to get rid of.

Kind Regards

Windows 11 might have a few issues with setting up older CPUs correctly. What CPU model do you have?

Some Lenovo laptops use a variety of methods to disable Intel Turbo Boost. There is no way for me to know what method your laptop uses. ThrottleStop is a generic tool that tries to handle the most common methods used.

The ThrottleStop Disable Turbo box on the main screen toggles a couple of different hardware registers to enable or disable Turbo Boost. The only way to access hardware registers in an operating system friendly way is by using a signed driver. You also need elevated privileges.

If you want to understand what ThrottleStop is doing to what register, use RWEverything and monitor MSR 0x198, 0x199 and 0x1A0. Toggle the Disable Turbo box on and off and watch for any changes in these 3 registers. These registers are mostly documented in the Intel publicly available documentation.

Thanks a lot, i'll look into that.

CPU is an i7-1165G7 - so i wouldn't consider it as old.
