With the growing popularity of modern handheld consoles, we’re curious—what do you game on when you’re away from your PC? Whether it’s a Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, or another portable device, let us know what keeps you gaming on the go!

If you can, let us know your age, too.

I did 30 years ago on the Nintendo Game Boy and Sega Game Gear.

I'm quite happy now with my PC and 34" OLED.

And what do I game on when I'm away from the PC? Nothing, I'll get my break from it.

A lot of the regulars are older, and they seem to be more PC focused. It'd be interesting to know the age bandings with handheld use. I never consider gaming when I'm not at my PC.

I've got some Chinese portable emulator/console to play while using train.
But I'm trying too android emulation. (every phone is an emulator :D and some emulators have already upscalers installed, that old games look great, for example worms armageddon xD )
I thought about buying one of those portable mini pc/console combo, but it costs like better hardware for my pc, so for now only low cost console or android for me :).

I have an Android based Mini Tablet, one of these;
Still have my GPD Q9+, JXD S7800B and Archos Gamepad1. All Android devices.

Been thinking about a Windows device. Good grief those prices. Even the Steam deck is more than I want to spend for something that is easily broken/damaged.

Bought a cheap emulation handheld on aliexpress (R36S for 25€). Discarded the shitty SD, installed a new one. Installed arkOS, configured and customized it to my liking. Filled it with ROMs. Aaaand to the drawer it went.

I prefer tinkering to gaming with it.

Those consoles are struggling to run modern games at 60fps and Low settings... Maybe Next-Gen APUs will be worth it but as of now anything below 60fps is a big no for me.

It's too bad the pole doesn't capture demographic information. I feel like the younger generations enjoy gaming on the go more than I do. If I'm getting away from my computer, that's an opportunity to not play games. Plus, when I'm playing games like Factorio, I want a large monitor. I'm not going to want to play something like that on a handheld. It's bad enough on a 16" laptop screen.

No. Valve has refused to supply the Steam Deck to Brazil, obtaining one is only possible through smuggling or gray market channels.

I can buy the ROG Ally X, but honestly, my laptop is still faster and I use the money to upgrade my desktop instead.

13900kf+4090 & a nintendo switch for the past 2 years. Before that was a 4700HQ+765M asus laptop (~2014) & nintendo switch.

Since I got my Steam Deck, my desktop is used only to play multiplayer Valheim with my friends. I could also play that on the Deck, but not having mouse and keyboard for these kind of games makes my skin crawl.

Does an iPad count as a hand held device?

I picked up the Ally X when it came out last year since I spend time on trains and buses to get to work.
Found it to be nice way to get 30 mins of older or indie games in the morning and afternoon that I usually wouldn't have sat down to play at home.
30 years old.

I had the Gameboy, GB Color, and GB Advanced, and PSP as a kid. I only used them when home. I don't care for games when I'm out of the house. On long trips, I rather look out the window. 8 hour flight? I'm staring out the window the whole time. I also feel like I'm going to puke if I focus on anythng up close while in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle.

Rarely, I had a Steam Deck but ended up selling it since I barely ever used it for gaming. When I'm out I barely have time to use a handheld and when I'm home I'd rather use my far more powerful desktop computer.

Still have a 3DS, Vita and PSP from back in the day, but rarely use them.

I think I had to vote no:

Ti-89 Calculator -> not a handheld device
Smartphone a, b, c, d -> not a handheld device
Android TAblet a, b -> not a handheld device.

I held it in the hands but it's still nope.

I'm really curious on the result for this question.

Yes, I am in the 3% "Other" category here.
I have an AYN Odin 2 which runs Android. The games I have the most hours on are Vampire Survivors, Animal Crossing (GameCube), Pokemon Fire Red, and Advanced Wars.

But I think most the games I play on PC don't work well on a handheld (Civilization, Crusader Kings, Northgard).

I own a Switch, but voted No. Think I've used it in handheld mode for like 10 minutes total. I rarely even use it in docked mode as it is.

Would've loved to have something like the Steam Deck as a kid, but as an adult I'm not the slightest bit interested in any of the handheld PCs.

48 YO. Bought open box Ally X, love it, use it to play less graphic intensive games like Synthetik 2 when I’m at conferences even though I could push it more. My desktop rig w. 6900 XT gets more use. Same for PS5 and PSVR2.

Exactly the case here.

I'll NEVER game on the go. I game at 27" awesomeness.

I listen to my fav songs on the go, though.
