Does anyone know the reason why we never get 21.5" / 22" / 23" 1080p high refresh monitors? Why always 24"?

24" the pixel density just ruins the immersion imo cause you can see the pixels too easily. Just curious why I seem to be the only one who feels this way... surely AOC, LG, Samsung and other screen manufactures know this too?

so you can see pixels on 24" but not 23"? honestly who want's a 21" high refresh monitor in this day and age? 24" seems to be the minimal standard that features such as high refresh rate and above HD/1080p resolulution seem to shine at, anything less and it's kind of a waste, would you really pay $500 for a 21" 4k screen? or hey 21" 4K screen cause you want your eyes to bleed..... from trying to look at the screen

I game at 17.3" 1080p for last few years. I love it. the pixel density is same as 27" 1440p as far as I can tell. but I have no issue pushing high frames on it. :D

23" bad example... 21.5" I can def tell the difference though. and I never said anything about 4k... I said 21.5" 1080p high refresh... you really are missing the key point here.

Slapping 1080p on the box of something enthusiast oriented in 2019 is pretty much a guarantee it's not going to have great sales figures. They're not going to bother focusing on it.

You could always go with a 24" @ 1440p165 if you want that crisp hotness. Despite being a TN panel I really like my Dell S2417DG for gaming.

I mean they are making 24.5" 240hz 1080p monitors a ton now... why not make one that is 21.5"? and I have tried that monitor in the past and did not like the color banding in it, and dark areas especially, its a good monitor overall but I require immersion. I admit that monitor came close though... shame they don't do that as an IPS

probably has to do with the cost to manufacture those panels. I also like / prefer smaller and higher ppi screens but they are few and far between.

you can always just move the low ppi monitors back a foot - instant pixel density.

that's my main issue, I just need to invest in a bigger desk. was trying to avoid that but I guess i have no choice

Or wall mount it. that will do the trick too, and looks super clean.

Also the new sharpening filters on nvidia cards really make a huge difference on low ppi monitors for me. Almost makes it look like it's a higher resolution.

What settings are you referring too? FXAA global enabled? can you give me some specifics on that

Install the latest nv drivers with Geforce experience. When you're in the game hit ALT+Z then go to game filters, and in the dropdown add sharpening.

Instant immersion. You can also add color tweaks, but sharpening by itself is a massive improvement.

Actually I though most high refresh monitors were 23.6" My 144hz one is. I wanted 24", but didn't get it. And I went from a 27" at 1080, oh the horror!

Most gamers don't want to use tiny screens. If you can see individual pixels on a 24" 1080p screen, you're either too close or you have some super vision.

so your saying the entire high end 17.3" laptop gaming market doesn't have much market share? neat. check out forumnotebookreviews someday... their are loads of us who are crazy about small screen gaming and willing to pay premiums for laptop form factors. but sure.

Distance matters in regards to pixel density. If you're 100' away, you're not going to be able to tell the difference if a 24" panel is 720p, 1080p, 1440p, nor 4K. That said, 24" should be 1920x1200, not 1920x1080. 23" is usually 1920x1080.

...looking at the rest of the thread...is your face <1' from the monitor?

I've had 21.5, 23, and 24 inch monitors in TN, IPS and VA all come in 1920x1080. 1920x1200 is 16:10 and a blast from the past, and also absolutely terrible in TN form because of viewing angles on a screen so freaking tall. I haven't used one since my old monitor-with-TV-input Syncmaster that's still around the office.

Quite honestly, after using 27" 1440 and 28" 4K for so long, even 24 is a little small. At this point, Siege on 21.5 just makes my eyes bleed. It really freaking sucks. That's probably why they don't make these in high refresh; a good number of people nowadays have tried 27s and curved ultrawides to the point where if they tried using a 144Hz 21.5 they'd probably just run to the bathroom retching.

@lynx29 I think what he means is that in comparison to the greater PC gaming scene, large and chunky high end gaming laptops probably aren't representative of a significant portion of users. There are quite a few of them, to be sure; it's the same with the SFF crowd. But I wouldn't think for a second that us sub-15L diehards are representative of most people out there.

You must have eagle eyes I suppose. Im using 24" monitor and sit around 1m - 1.5m, and I cant see the pixels.
