It will be open to kernel level malware yes, and is a big security hole, but not "malware of any kind"

I am a guy whose daily job is security consulting, if we are posting our credentials.

Considering how easy it is to use even dated hardware HDMI through TV to toslink for 5.1 I still fail to understand why anyone uses modded drivers for audio, you can get the same benefit from a cheap decent receiver and more than likely the cheap speakers people pair with such a setup are the limiting factor anyway.

Then again I know a guy that built a “subwoofer” from cardboard and glue and thought it sounded good when it was buzzing from overextending the driver.

It can depend on your version of modded. In a scenario where a feature is unlocked, that's different imo. In my case the driver and its related files are untouched, original.
I intentionally don't touch them, they also have their original certificates. I do however modify APO and related files, to unlock and improve them.

Many people want for example DTS Interactive or Dolby Digital out on either SPDIF or HDMI (GPU), which does not natively come with the said APO's or files.

You know shit. The average Windows user has Microsoft Defender enabled and that is enough to detect malicious drivers regardless of the signature . Even those which are signed are subdued to behavioral analysis . Now trust me or do your research : if a really clever malicious actor want to squeeze a threat into your system it won't be through a driver . But the thing is that most of the people here are not "average" Windows user if they ended up here looking for an audio mod. So most probably they actually have a third party antivirus solution that may ( or may not, actually ) be better at detecting threats , specially on modules that compromises network related activity.
Having said so, the people that ask you to disable Driver Signature Enforcement, mainly self sign the drivers so it does not need to happen on your end. And believe me , a self signed driver exported to another computer is a risk for that people and not you. If you knew how driver signing works, you'll know. Additionally , due to the nature of the chain of validation in modern systems, even disabling driver signature only releases on layer of protection. So even if that people is clever enough to make a driver that takes anything from your computer, they'll count on driver signature being enabled.
In the specific driver package you have linked, it happens to be signed with the original certificates . Those are valid but can not pass the chain validation process because a matching certificate is not the only thing you need in order to load it.
So, next time before you are thinking to sarcastically call "expert" a person that takes time of his own life to modify and offer something paid so you can use it without paying a dime, think that twice

No, that only works for stereo or pre-encoded content, you cant do that for 5.1 game audio to an old dolby sound system

That's why we have several threads on this forum with modded drivers to enable the features

What interests me is this line at the bottom of the linked website:

@Ferather I'm pretty sure OP is actually making a dig at you, given your history of audio mod contributions :D

Beware of so called modded drivers that force you by their so called experts modded authors to make YOU disable driver enforcement verification !
By doing so your system will be compromised and an open door to malware of any kind !

NOTES: this post is made by an very experienced person that has knowledge into security of os's !

Are you affiliated with the linked website and Win10 Lite?

The rest of that website mentions being the author of 'win lite10 lite', which is interesting in that almost exclusively these custom debloated OS's remove all the security features of windows when doing so...
