Now you're just talking rubbish. Original Doom hardly had any kind of Ai. Monsters were dumb as a brick and you could gun them down from a distance all day long and they wouldn't even move. Here, at least on Nightmare difficulty, they are super agile, super accurate and unlike in original, I actually am afraid of certain bastards. Hell Knights are deadly, but they are just bullet sponges. What I fear the most are Security Possessed. If you don't have explosives to bounce behind them or lure them near barrels, you'll be having very hard times taking them down. Especially in tight corridors.

As for the "too young" "argument", I can only laugh at that...

I played original doom on a 386. Times were very different back then. AI was excellent considering. This AI isn't much different, the game is pretty easy.

I know you're not 40 like I am, so yeah, too young to understand. I paid nearly $400 for 8MB of ram to play DOOM. Your threads on how to OC your current system say it all for me.

And really, I mean no offense at all. Being young is awesome, so just enjoy it. :p It's not a bad thing.

Talk about bringing back memories.

I was all excited when 4mb of ram went down to $100 a stick. :p I ended up buying 4 sticks over a couple of months along with a Diamond Monster 12mb video card to rock out on Quake.
Thought I would never ever need any more "power" in a PC. :toast:

I'm certain I finished it with 4 MB of RAM (both first and second doom) on my ancient amd 486 dx40, however I did pay dearly for another 4 MB to install windows 95

Playing it on max seems running without any issues. And I like it, only downside is that when I put game on max sound neighbours start to be angry :) But I was allways playing doom on max sound my speakers can give otherwise its no fun.

You totally could. But maybe that's why my expectations for this game are a bit high. It's not bad, but close to original DOOM? Not at all. Similar? Of course!

I didn't paly from windows... DOS man, DOS. :p You know, back in the days of autoexec.bat... ROFL. :respect:

 sure I played all games from ms dos 6.2 with 4gw memory extender, and my autoexec.bat had himem.sys in it and all for all shit to be able to run, but win95 was a first hog that truly needed at least 8 MB of RAM  also unrelated, I remember being pissed how my cpu couldn't run duke nukem 3d smoothly in 800x600

**warning Spoiler Alert** seriously, dont play this if you dont want to see Game content from start to finish.

This , and many post original dooms Lack the "Fear factor" that was captured SO well. Im not certain if its desensitizing of players, or the content lacking, but that sense of dread, and worry felt in the originals, is not present in the new version.

I just can't understand people going on about original Dooms being scary. They just weren't. Ever. Alone in the Dark was scary. I can still remember the intro image of a creepy hand on a window as you arrive to the mansion. And all the freak shows happening as you entered. But Doom? Nope. I just don't get it from what you people got any scare or suspense when you were mowing down enemies en mass. It's impossible to combine suspense with large numbers of enemies. Only that somewhat captures that is Dead Space. Original Dooms = large number of enemies, no suspense. Doom 3, fewer enemies with more focus on suspense, scare jumps, weird noises, weird devilish shit happening (remember that bathroom and the mirror?). This Doom is returning back to original basics. Ugly ass monsters that you have to gun down. And that's exactly how I remember Doom. Ugly ass monsters that had to die. They weren't scary, they were ugly.

It's about ammo management and the fact that games at the time were like Q-Bert and similar. Regular Ninentdo didn't have many titles yet. Movies had almost NO special effects, and TV didn't at all, because it was too expensive. High-power PCs took up warehouses. Redbook audio (You could load the game, take out the disc, and then put in your own audio disc for music). This is why I say you're too young. You grew up with semi-decent graphics, SFX in movies and TV... you've been highly desensitized. Heck, when DOOM came out there wasn't even high-speed internet widely available (1995 for internet, 1993 or 92 for DOOM, can't remember exactly).

If played today, I'd totally agree with you on all that. But the original DOOM was one of the first FPS games, when titles like Hexen and such tried to copy DOOM in a big way.

Ammo management? I guess it depends on difficulty, but on Nightmare, I often run out of ammo or health quite regularly and I have to cleverly switch between weapons to complete a segment. And I have both upgraded to lvl 4. I can often refill it all up between big fights, but not always. Recharging equipment does help a bit, especially once you fully upgrade it and it recharges quite fast. It's difficult when you get a hard hit and you have to quickly decide if you'll finish the segment with low health, try to make glory kill on something to recover health and risk it even more or you'll try to glory kill some small monster/possessed. It requires quite some fast thinking. I sometimes kinda regret it after repeating same segment for frigging 10th time, but when I do complete it, it's so damn satisfying.

The game runs very smooth I mean, the OGL it has been always very clean; no lag or stuttering at all

A played the game at 1080p with a GTX980Ti and this is a little benchmarck on Nightmare/Ultra settings

Frames - 6364
Time(ms) - 60000
Min - 67 FPS
Max - 178 FPS
Avg - 106 FPS

I think that the new GTX 1080 is only 20% better at best on games and the GTX 1070 will match the actual GTX 980Ti

No reason to change my SLI unless the GTX 1080 would be at least 35% best wich is not the case clearly.
Game looks great, it remainds me the Unreal Tournament LAN games.

The tension caused by not having what you need = fear of not having enough. That fear caused you to adjust play style and switch weapons. Scary = causing fear, by... like... definition?

Hence you feeling great when you get past those sections... that's the release of that fear.

Scary as in shocking? Nope, not in DOOM.

Hahaha, just got Syphon grenades that channel health from demons to me, paired with rune that enhances equipment and the other rune that gives me infinite ammo for as long as I have more than 100 (or 75 after upgrade) of armor. Meaning I can mow down hordes of enemies without losing a single bullet for as long as I have enough armor. I'm GOD MODE now :D

I'm on 2nd mission trying to find all secrets without looking for guides on internet. NIce idea that they included hidden levels of classic doom.

I've looked only for one because it didn't make any sense. Turns out I missed a hidden switch. Doooh. Other than that I'm poking the map for so long till I figure it out. So far found basically all secrets except few in the beginning because I had no clue what to look at. Also only found 3 classic Doom maps. I guess I'll replay them to find more. They really made exploration part very interesting, far more than traditional stupid "secrets". Mostly because you actually benefit from them in terms of gameplay benefits. And viewing those collectables is pretty cool. You can rotate, pan and zoom in weapons and monsters, for those that you've found collectables. So you can observe all the monsters as you please. It's kinda cool :)

AS it states that each level contains one classic doom secret. But I didnt find it on 1st. But will replay it anyways to find em all. Playing on nightmare(3rd difficulty I think) Health is eaten pretty fast.

Actually, Nightmare is 2nd highest difficulty. Only one higher is Ultra Nightmare which requires you to finish the game first before you can use it. It's a one life campaign. Considering I've died quite few times on Nightmare, I have no intention to play that.

When will they release the full game on physical media ? :wtf:

Downloading 40+ GB is just ridiculous

I may have a uncapped package but I still have to adhere to my AUP... :slap:
