Dual Boot Windows question.

I finally broke down several weeks ago and bought the Lappy in my sig with Win 10 and I have to admit I'm impressed so far....but to each their own in the end.

I have installed it but didn't have enough time to play with it, i was looking for Disk C: and couldn't find it, everything is in the wrong place :shadedshu:

it was so frustrating

i need time to get used to it.

My computer is now This PC
Windows Explorer is now File Explorer
But to me every thing felt familiar.
Cortana search will bring you everything you need ..CMD....really everything. Pin most used stuff to start menu.

There are many ways how to make W10 to look like W7 and so if i keep W10 i will change it.

Nope it can't and vise versa u need the correct license for the Windows version u r running.

I have purchased a few Windows 10 Pro licenses on ebay works like a claim, my own is a "real" Windows 8.1 Pro Upgrade that I have upgraded to Windows 10 Pro

it's an exception when u upgrade to Windows 10, but that is long gone even I had computers with Windows 7 that wasn't able to get upgrades in term of license.

But what i mean is u can't activate a Windows 7 Pro with a Home license and so on they need to match like Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.

Yes ,as far as I know there's only windows 10 home, windows 10 pro, and a couple letter variants that do & don't have certain languages and media related applications preinstalled. But yes it will be windows 10 pro

I don't know what puma was referencing, but every time I have used one of my windows seven pro or Windows 7 ultimate keys to register windows 10 it's always windows 10 pro even Windows 7 home becomes windows 10 pro, at least it always did for me

There's nothing to be lost because you can roll right back to Windows 7 if you don't like it it saves a shadow copy of Windows 7 if you use it to upgrade and if you do a clean install just make a back up it's not like your key is going to be wiped are used up

this is a screenshot of my activated win10 PC, i used a win7 Pro key, i can say no more...maybe create a thread specifically for asking others about this if you dont trust, but i can only tell you what i know. good luck

also there is only win10 home and win10 pro, the rest dont apply to this matter, so maybe that will help you trust too..

Better yet let me do this I know someone here on tech power who actually told me that you could use a windows seven key a while back to activate windows 10 ill mention him and see if he can comment as to whether I'm correct or not @stinger608 will using a win7 pro or ultimate key to install win10 give the user win10 pro(as oppossed to win 10 home)? Every time I have done it it has worked but it seems as though others are disputing that fact what is your experience if it's not too much trouble

I was doing my best to make that point but you worded it better than I did.

I never personally saw the point of windows seven ultimate anyway. The only difference from pro is the 90,000 language options isnt it?

Today i got the Key that I bought yesterday on Ebay and i have activated W10.

There are a lot of thing from it that i will delete/hide/change to make it look like W7, for now i have changed the start button and a few other things.

I have a problem, so far everything works great, shutdown and startup are amazingly fast, but here is the problem: when i restart the Machine it doesn't give me the option to choose if i want to load W7 or W10 :confused:

Any thoughts.

Hmm so it seems the W10 installation has wiped out the boot files for W7....
Instead there's only a W10 bootloader now... Thanks M$! M$ doesn't want you to use W7 anymore now you have W10... :shadedshu:

Nah, if i want to run W7 i just need to choose from Bios where W7 it's installed and it load it but it's kinda annoying.

Then it seems you had disconnected the drive on which Windows 7 was installed during the Windows 10 installation?
