I've been out of the hardware scene for a while since it seems like the progression has slowed down. So, I forgot a lot.
I have a-
EVGA 650i Mobo
e6850 @ 3.6 ghz
2x1 GB OCZ Platinum
etc etc

I want at least 4GB since COD MW2 can run great at max settings, except for some choking which I'm sure is due to 2 gigs of ram (512mb in my vid card)

Should I...
1. Go quad channel, get 2 more OCZ platinums @ 1GB each and keep the OC'd memory settings that I set up like 1.5 yrs ago. haha
2. Get new 2x2 GB anythings.
3. Or even get 2x2 GB ocz platinums for 6GB of ram total.

Yes there is, only on server boards though I reccommend going for a 2x2gb set and if your board supports it you can run all 4 sticks and keep dual channel if not then run the 2x2gb and sell your other 2 gig set

While in essence he is right that there isnt technically quad channel going on in the motherboard. It is simply a marketing term for the four stick sets of ram. No different than buying two kits and putting it together, other than all 4 are closely matched at the factory in a "Quad Channel kit" versus mix and matching two other kits.

If you are overclocking, they will all perform similar, only benifit I see out of it. but with four sticks most boards get a bit funky anyways.

I suggest getting a "dual channel" kit over populating all four DIMM's

Terminology mixup-- What's a better term for four channels of ram? I remembered that 4 sticks will not benefit over 2 sticks, but I remember there being debate that 4 might actually slow down the memory performance. So I guess I'll go for 2x2 gb OCZ plat and then if 6 gb works well, keep it, otherwise I'll stick with dual channel 2x2. Thanks for the answers!
