"durable" is it a marketing tool?

Title pretty says it all. Are motherboards dubbed durable, ultra durable etc really more durable than boards without this title, or is it just a marketing gimmic?

My DFI board isn't titled as "durable" at all, but it's withstood a lot IMO.

Sometimes it pays to choose boards with good components. Everyone knows how much Gigabyte boards sucked (in terms of component life) before they came up with "Ultra Durable 2" branding. With TDP and power requirements on the rise, the discerning user looks for many power phases, ferrite core chokes, sold-state caps, added stability which goes beyond just feeding components, OC. Power stability is key for a good OC. AMD already has 140W CPU's lined up for release, several low-mid PCI-E 2.0 cards don't come with power input, burdening the board.

Some are titled, and are indeed durable. Others aren't, and are still durable. Any adjective not purely quantifiable such as "durable" is at least to an extent a marketing tool.

Originally used by gigabyte. However other mfgrs used it to catch up...so in some ways it is a marketing tool.

At the end of the day, it's all about the quality of it's components, solid state capacitators and all that, thing is, there are a lot of good boards out there, some high end, take for example the NVidia reference 780i boards from EVGA, XFX etc, when they came out a few months ago they were very expensive, so many manufacturers market the overclocking abilities of their boards but those reference 780i boards do not have all solid state capacitors which mean you may well hammer the boards on a daily basis, but in the longer term, they wont last as long......of course it's us that pay for the privilge, the mark of a truly good board manufacturer IMO are those that use these "durable" high quality components even in their budget/mid ranged offerings.

Its not a marketing thing in my eyes, just a soothing, comfort feeling knowing your components will be alright.

well I've never heard of "durabe" being used to describe electronic stability
