DVD and DivX to iPOD ripping

Encoding to iPod from DVD or DivX

I would appreciate any tips on encoding to iPOD video format.

I've got a couple of DVD sources that I'd like to transfer to the iPod. I tried using one or two of those "for idiots" tools that 100's of companies are trying to sell. TBH i wasnt impressed with the software, nor the quality of the file.

Can anyone recommend software/utility (not including iTunes), for encoding DVD or MPEG or DivX to iPod video format? Thanks

Has anyone tried converting VOB (DVD) to MP4 (iPod video) ?

Handbrake works well for DVD ripping. http://handbrake.fr/

For other sources, I use MediaCoder. They even have a version specifically for iPods/iPhones. http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

Yep, so long as you know the settings your player requires.

i use WinAVI mp4 converter. you have to rip the dvd and remove copyright protection first though. use either dvdfab or clonedvd with any dvd.

DVDFab Platinum is able to encode directly to mp4 for various device profiles.
