i get massive vdroop with my mobo, it will boot at 3.6ghz (400x9) on 1.54v (bios reporting, 1.60v is what i need to set it to) but then my power regs get too hot with no heatsink on them and it crashes as soon as i put the cpu under any load.

Going to do the Vdroop mod tomorrow in the day.

With the psu, the bloke at MSY (not renowned for its service) told me 430w was not enough for my system and that i needed 550w min. Instead of arguing i just went ahead and bought a 650w Trio :) So should be smooth sailing from now on.

What should i now fiddle with to gain the highest possible FSB? if the CPU speed is the same but FSB is higher does the CPU need more vcore.

Isnt 1.5v a bit bad for it? i got told 1.45 was the most you would want to 24/7.

After i fix vdroop im going to work on the fsb, what do i need to increase to get to 420?

Also what is a #2 pencil? I have 2H and 2B here :p
I would not use more than 1.55Vcore on air and 1.6Vcore on very good watercooling setup.

With 1.5Vcore it gets pretty hot but as i told this is because of IHS and only way is to remove IHS. Now its running 3520Mhz stable. Want to reach 3.6Ghz stable, but need to improve cooling.

Hrm... I dont really wanna remove the IHS as of yet :p If i bought a better cooler would that eliminate the need to remove the IHS?

Anyway im now moving towards a higher FSB. So far its stable at 389*8 for ~3.1ghz, if i wanted to reach 443*7 or 517*6 ( i understand the last one WONT happen no matter how hard i try :p ) what should i now be doing. Does the FSB wall come from the CPU side? Like would adding more VCore without vdroop (atm its set 1.4 vdroop 1.38-1.34)? I added +.1v to MCH and FSB, how much more voltage can i safely add?
Thanks

389*8 was NOT stable with +.1v FSB +.1MCH and 1.4vcore (1.38/6 ide 1.34/6 load). What should i increase to boost this up? or is the FSB not that much of a performance booster ( i was told the chips get bottlenecked by it in some cases)

Also the Vdroop mod made the drooping much worse :(

getting 3ghz out of it with stock cooling is good, some wont even hit 2.8 under stock air.

better cooling is the only way to get more than that mate. im not sure if i would want to run it under a stock cooler on 1.4v for too long tbh, what temps are you getting under full load

I dont touch 60. Anyway ive found out my large issue.

388*8, 1.425 (1.4idle 1.38load effectively) vcore, vdimm 2.1v ram at 998 and +.1fsb +.1mch ran fine. After a four hour orthos fest i decided to play some CSS. Anyway an hour in it crashed hard locking the system

I went back to bios and it crashed then twice. I determined that my northbridge was the problem as it was SEARING hot to touch :(

would the video gaming increase the NB's heat?

And also, i know this is a bit ambiguous but if the system locks hard without any way to move mouse/we can you presume where the fault is? cause i used to just get prime chuck a fit if it would fail from too high of a overclock.

Here is a pic of the heatsink

random system restarts were the cpu, lock ups were the ram and bsod could be both on my system.

try dropping your ram to see if it helps. a 1:1 divider will remove them from the equation and if you can get anymore form your cpu on that divider you know you have found the limits of your ram.

im sure the ram can do 1066 stable since i ran it at that while playing games at a lower clockspeed 2ghz. Could it be that the specific divider or strap ( someone exlpain strapping to me plz!!!) is unstable??

Anyway 8*388 with a fan blowing on the NB heatsink, 1.4v idle 1.38 load , ram to fsb 1:1 everything else stock seems to be 100% stable ( 6hours othros + 5 hours gaming :D )

I have a Gigabyte 965 ds3 and I put a cheap $6.00 fan on the northbridge that I picked up at microcenter and it took care of my heat problem. I can now overclock my cheap ocz ram to 931mhz at 4 4 4 15 2t timings.
