I am from Greece, and from several users reviews and feedback, I did read comments that at multi player there is nowadays allot of cheating and that EA does not do much about it.
Personally I am still undecided of which Battlefield version this is worth getting.
They are many complains about Battlefield V , play-ability, size over a hard drive, long download time about receiving Game patches.

From the other hand if you are up-to go back (Battlefield 4 , 3 ), how back can you go?
From much older Battlefield titles, I do not think that they are hosting multiplayer servers any more.

You can go back as far as you want

Im not sure about 1942 - Ive seen videos of it working in 2019 so i assume it still works. I have personally tried BF2 with BF2Hub and it works great.

Anything after BF2 is trash IMHO.
