EA Looking Into Remastering Command & Conquer Series of Videogames

I would love to replay the whole series again in 1440p with Ultra HD textures. But please, please, please, please, keep the EXACT SAME GAMEPLAY, don't "improve" on anything please!

Not always. Westwood originally published the first few games in the series under Virgin. In 1998 EA bought them. When EA shuddered the studio, the founders of Westwood went on to found Petroglyph, the makers of Star Wars Empire at War which was, surprise surprise, an excellent RTS.

Still, C&C3 and RA3 were very good. I might get a ton of flak for this, but while it was a departure from the standard RTS model used on the whole of the rest of the series, C&C4 was interesting. I liked it. However, Tiberian Sun + Firestorm will always be my favs of the series.

EA needs to sell the rights of C&C to Petroglyph.

Can't agree with that. C&C3+Kane's Wrath were excellent. RA3 was damn good too!

You can do that with TS+FS and above. You just have to edit your config files manually. With C&C3, RA3 & C&C4 they all work out of the box. They're just scaled/zoomed out.

NOTE TO EA;

If you are going to remake the series, keep it faithful to the originals. If possible use the original storylines, video footage and whatnot just remastered. Just bring it up to current tech standards. And put some effort into it! Make it a quality experience instead of the lumps of drivel you tend to shovel out in the last 8 years. Renegade deserves a quality remake and several sequels. Keep LAN play intact! The single player aspects of the games were excellent for sure. What made C&C the defacto set of multi player games was LAN parties! Online play is not for everyone. And last but certainly not least, loose the DRM!! It's pointless, pisses off legitimate gamers and you will lose sales. I personally don't and will never use the origin client. Ever. Release on Steam DRM free and GOG. If you can't do it DRM free, don't bother doing it at all.

It's bad enough EA murdered Westwood / Command & Conquer, but now they want to resurrect it like an evil necromancer? Let dead bodies lay, EA. I like the series as it is. Just make the games easier to play on future Windows OS and I'll be fine with that.

Am I the only one wanting a Renegade remake? I actually finished that game, the only in the series. I'm much, MUCH more a Warcraft/Starcraft guy. I want stats with my units, not just bars. That was the greatest failing of Battle Realms.

Just played the first missions from C&C3 and did that ini edit to 2560*1080. It works flawlessly - the in-game resolution option reads 800<+600, and the intro menu isn't scaled - it's rendered at traditional 1080p - but in-game and cutscenes all scale properly for the resolution. And the units look fine

You should have been able to select that res inside the game. Did you try?

For C&C2 and RA2 the config.ini file most definitely needs the manual edit.

I did, but it maxed out at 1080p. Even at 1080p, though, the menu was scaled to fit the entire screen, but pixel count was clearly stretched 1080p.

Interesting. Maybe the 21:9 aspect ratio is something the game was never designed for and doesn't understand.

Yeah, I liked the RTS/FPS hybrid of Renegade. Just easy to forget that it's a Command & Conquer game because it doesn't play like it.

Absolutely! You give me Zero Hour with high end graphics by todays standards and I'm all over it for sure. Zero Hour (or a Generals 2) is exactly what I want in an RTS, no more, no less.

EA needs to sell the rights of C&C to Petroglyph. They are the only ones who could save this series. After RA2 Yuri's Revenge, the franchise has degenerated into a complete joke. Not only did EA start flogging a dead horse after 99% of the original Westwood team left the company, they also necro'd the dead horse and proceeded to defile its corpse. I.E. they screwed the franchise so hard it went from being a AAA series to a mobile-only game - a shameful cash grab where every unit is blocked by a micro-transaction paywall.

That'd be great, I always forget that Petroglyph is full of ex-Westwood employees. If EA doesn't want to give up the rights they could license it out to Petroglyph. I'm sure EA is too stubborn to do either.

Nah, all infantry drops loot crates and you can only pick them up with heavy tanks.

Because we all mass tanks anyway.
