I dont know what the reason is but 2 lexar drives back to back have issues. one nvme I already got refunded for. as soon as I had issues with that nvme I quickly ordered another lexar sata ssd. the nvme would hang for transfers or processing and then lock up the pc. says not responding

now the sata ssd is also having issues. ill run chkdsk. is it c: /f or /r?

I tried it once with elevated cmd and it said it will do it next restart and it completely ignored it. id like a scan which can show me whats happening any way to do that?

well I cant trust the drive as I use it to edit wedding work I shoot. so I need to clone the drive and will either rma it too or use it for something not important. Im now not sure if its the motherboard perhaps or the bad lexar drives. lexar has very little experience wth drives. they make memory cards for years. I was happy with the few I have. but not much experience with drives.

yesterday was editing images. first culling through images through windows photo viewer in w10. so i go through the images and press delete on those I reject. usually I delete and it goes to the next image. on some when I deleted, the pc would hang, then a few seconds later showed the progress window come up, like it was erasing a lot of files but it was just one image. when I also tried to erase the recycle bin, some random numbered images were hanging and wouldnt delete. I tried deleting the other images but it would all hang. i tried close the prompt for the few images but it would hang. so I have 2 other nvme drives im going to test. 1 is firecuda 520, the other are 2 just received 3x4 HP ex900 plus drives. ALL my drives are always 1tb. I much prefer to have smaller drives in case of failure.

You'll have to use a third-party software, because there are no built-in tool in Windows. You can use a software like Macrium Reflect : the trial will be enough for your needs. Get it here : https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Install the software and connect your two drives to your PC. Just click on the “Clone this disk” option and follow the steps.
Once the process is done, turn off your PC, remove the old drive, plug the new one in, and you're good to go.
When you're sure that all of your data is there, and your PC is fully working, you can format the old drive and use it for your data.

i have used macrium free version for m.2 and it just works, no problems.

wants me to register. thats a no. wiill see if I can work with clonezilla. its cumberome and it wore me out with the 1000 prompts before and gave up with it last year but will try it again. small and free.

If you're gonna clone into a WD or a Micron, you may get Acronis for free to use with their drives

I dont buy WD/sandisk/micron products. and I wont use acronis. now I remember. I believe it was them that installed crap in my browseer. or cookies I couldnt remove. so no way to acronis. and no way to those brands.

I remember years back with the OCZ core ssd jmicron drive I got screwed with. micron/crucial had issues with their drives and they ignored support. I remember it very well. I will never buy any of their products. I have a HUGE list of brands I dont buy and yet no shortage of other brands I buy from .

You can download here FREE!
You don't have to register it will work anyway.

I would recommend to use Clonezilla for this task
See this short video

I would recommend to disconnect all other drives before starting Clonezilla
Get an USB drive, download the USB installer version, install it on the USB drive, boot up from the USB drive the Clonezilla,
Select the "correct" drive as source, select the "correct" drive as destination.
Live CD/USB

I know tech geeks give positive feedback on clonezilla. its geeky and I got confused but I had to do it by memory of the procedure. I have a laptop so I can see the procedure. I tried samsung magician. it lasted like a day and then failed. such trash. ill try CZ. i was looking for foss click ui but I see I have no choice. thank you everyone. ill try it again and see.

It is not "that" complicated,
Pick the beginner mode and read all the text carefully.
Also, as I mentioned, remove/disconnect all other drives to reduce the confusion and mistake opportunities.
The only thing where you can really mess up is to select the wrong drive as source!
Be f#>{ing careful with that and you are good.
Also also, you should be able to see the steps on a mobile.

ill update tomorrow. Ill try it. my other concern is perhaps the lexar ssd has corrupt files and im just moving problem over. if so Ill just do a reinstall. yea easy peasey. only 3 hours of work tweaking. HA!

If it's corrupt, there is nothing you can do.
Hope that none of the important files are affected.

I recommend trialing Terabyte's Image for Windows. should have a 30 day trial.

let me do the chkdsk and see where we are at. last time I did it in elevated command prompt mode and said it would do it on reboot, and passed by right into w10 like "wahhh, chkdsk,, you didnt ask fo no chkdsk"

This seems to still exist in Windows 10. I don't remember exactly what it does but it's something you can explore.

ok, did a chkdsk says scanning repairing. goes to 100% then reboots. anti climactic. will try clonezilla and clone. will update.

AH! wow, forgot about that! god I love windows 7!!!!!!

thats it. ill update
Always make sure to test restoration once you establish a backup procedure. Nothings worse than getting to that point of needing it and discovering your backup is useless.
