EDP OTHER Limit on Core and Ring

Hello!

I bought back one of the laptops I used to own (MSI Titan GT77HX)

Laptop has known issue when BIOS is updated past 105 to e.g. 108 or 112 then CPU max power becomes 120W.

I have downgraded my BIOS to 105 so that wattage is unlocked.

Here is the issue: When I change to Hybrid mode I can manipulate wattage and everything works as far as I'm aware.

As soon as I switch to DGPU mode, I get maximum 185W (stable) on the CPU when running it without TS or anything open.

As soon as I open TS but change nothing, works the same 185W limit and in LIMIT section I'm getting EDP OTHER on CORE and RING.

If I even attempt to raise power limit from default 220W (which CPU doesn't reach) to e.g. 230W I will then get a throttle to 0.4Ghz and stay there forever when running CB23.

My ICCMAX is unlocked to unlimited in BIOS and set to 511.75 for P and E cores in TS.

VBS is disabled via regedit and so is virtualization for good measure directly in the BIOS.

I know EDP OTHER is linked to ICCMAX which doesn't seem to be a problem, also, P4 is at 330W, which seems okay as well.

Wondering what the problem could be. Any advice is appreciated.

EDIT: I ensured to install ME from MSI website but not installed Dynamic Tuning driver yet which I will do later on

Might be a good idea to send a bug report email to MSI about the CPU power limit on BIOS's newer than 105.

They won't care, I am just using the 105 and it's okay, managed to get it going before but forgot what I did

Googled and found this: "From what I remember it enables "adjustment on the fly" of PL1 PL2, cpu temperature, total processor power target and other processor power limit features."

Should be it! Not home now but will try when I'm back.

I also set IccMax to the max for the Intel GPU and iGPU Unslice. For some unknown reason, the ThrottleStop Intel GPU setting is the only important one on my 14900HX. I also set Power Limit 4 to the max, 1023.

If it is PL1 or PL2 power limit throttling, you can set IMON Slope in the BIOS to 50. That will reduce the reported power consumption and might help.

a bug report email to MSI
MSI likes doing funny things with their laptops when they find out that users are pushing the envelope just a little too much. Limiting max performance with various power and current limits is their fix for over enthusiastic users.

Unfortunately not helped. Will keep trying things.

However, when I go to TPL menu and then to Turbo Power Limits window within, I instantly get 0.4Ghz throttle, if it's untucked it's back to 190W

Try checking the Speed Shift box and set Speed Shift Max to the max, 255. That might help with the 0.4 GHz issue.

Are you using TS 9.7.3? Some users cannot check the MMIO Lock box. I think this issue is related to having XTUService.exe running in the background. If XTU is installed or any other software that uses the XTU libraries, try uninstalling that.

Unfortunately no joy still

Using TS 9.6 that's what I used last with this laptop that worked before

Tried using TS 9.7 also but still no joy. The only mode now that seems to work unlimited power is integrated graphics, hybrid now only allows for 190W. Tried Windows 10 with and without any drivers or with just ME and Dynamic Tuning Drivers but still very unhappy might just give up
