ok, so i got my stuff in as most of you know by now,

I have a maxtor 320gb sataII hdd
Asus p5b-deluxe
Pentium D 945
crucial Ballistix pc-6400
Mx5000 mouse/keboard
EVGA 7300gs
Dynapower usa psu (going to get something else don't wry)

Anyway i formatted the drive, took about an hour, loaded the os files, rebooted and give me "Error loading operating system"
Now i googled it and i found, change drive to lba or large. Done that
Update bios. Done that
Reformat and reinstall after the two above, done that.

Now what do i do? i tried xp sp1 and xp sp2 anybody got anything?

I'm going to reformat it once again and try xp sp2 again. and that will take about an hour, so if you got anything. Please share.

thanks for the help in advance.

Could be a SATA driver issue. Also, just let Windows setup format it as NTFS (quick), it makes sure it gets set as active and primary. Just delete all partitions and create 1 big one. If it works you can always resize with parition magic or something.

it's doing the slow format :( and it takes about an hour.
when the thing says "press f6 for scis or raid drivers" do i need to do that?

ok, i dk if this has much to do with it, ok yeah has a lot to do with it i guess, anyway the box of the hdd says

Maxtor
DiamondMax21
Buffer Size 16mb
Typical Seek Time 8.5ms
External Transfer rate 3.0gb / sec
(sata/3.0GB)
Maxtor 3-yr. Limited Warrenty
Kit: Lo1f300
STM303004N1AAAs-RK
P/N 9DZ1A6-591
Serial Number xxxxxxxx

Edit: this is weird, i can't find this drive on egg, maxtors site, or hardly any other place. it's like the drive doesn't exist yet, i have it.....btw it's not a good performance drive is it?

seems like a good performance drive. Some drives need you to hit F6 and install the sata or raid drivers on a pc. I havent had to do that, but it may be worth a try. I dont know why it formatted a brand new hd, but I would have opted for the NTFS Quick as Dan mentioned.

Well it would make sense for a brand new drive to not be formatted. Some people like other file systems besides NTFS.

I can't remember if the last drive I got was formatted or not from the factory.

oh yeah! check out this screenie, now, i want to hit 4.4ghz so i'll be posting in the overclocking soon

edit: I just noticed it said 2.888 and it's not @ 2.8, it's at 4.06ghz,

it fluctuates from 2.8 to 4.06.......why?

dunno why, if it was AMD I could tell you its cool n quiet, not sure if Intel has something like that. Are you using Liquid Cooling for that Proc (things damn hot it you arent) or stock air

Yeah, Intels is called speedstep I think? Your CPU might be getting too hot and it's downclocking itself. For the love of god... are you overclocking and not monitoring your temps?

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedStep
