So, as many predicted, after an imminent failure and a year of silence Evolve has gone Free-to-Play.

Release notes:

he Evolve: Stage 2 beta releases today, free on Steam. This is more than just an update; we overhauled almost every system and achieved our goal of converting Evolve into a free game. We’ve added and updated numerous features, fixed tons of bugs, improved stability and performance across the board, and completely redesigned many aspects of the game. These notes break down every feature that the Turtle Rock Studios team has been working hard on and is proud to share with you today.

If Turtle Rock really did fix it (and they'd better, after 16 months since release), it will be a nice FtP alternative to permanently broken TF2, especially the competitive mode.

I wonder how buyers of the original game feel now... I'm guessing not all that great. Unless they get some special goodies because they bought it back then. Would be fair to give those some goodies...

They probably do get some goodies, but I doubt that pre-order people will ever forgive the developer (some paid over $100 with all the crap and fancy trinkets).
Fortunately I was one of those, who participated in beta, did not like it much, and decided to wait.

After watching Jim Sterling's video about this topic yesterday, I learned that Turtle Rock is indeed giving something to the buyers of the original game.

They are calling all of the buyers of the original game "Founders" and the following Steam link shows what the "Founders" will receive from Turtle Rock: http://steamcommunity.com/games/273350/announcements/detail/615122187470506762
