Not sure what any of that has to do with anything. Thanks.

So let's get over ourselves and admit you need neither a 9900K or an 8 core Ryzen for gaming anyway, and it isn't even the optimal choice, because more cores will reduce clock potential. Six is the magical number for now and the foreseeable future and there was always a good reason to not get into Intel Extreme CPUs for gaming. That hasn't changed...

Six is great, eight is better.

Bench results or it didn't happen ;)

So far I'm not seeing it. Still doesn't mean it won't happen, but look at how long it took for us to rise beyond the quad core for gaming - and even the benefit of 6c over 4c/8t is minimal at best. I would say its better to get a 6 core with potential to grab an extra 100-200 mhz or get similar with less costly cooling requirements and less need for a great chip. The only thing that may skew things in favor of the 8 core is the fact that the 9700K will be soldered. And there is also the price aspect.

depends how far you take it, 8 cores will surely do better on a 144hz 1080p display with an OC'd 2080, that's pretty much the scenario where you'll start to see an 8 core rear its head in front of a six core.

I don't follow...
Good.

I think some people are overly critical of things at times. This thread is the perfect example. Complaining about how packaging looks, when the actual cost is insignificant when you sell millions of units... sigh...

Well, somebody isn't in a good mood today... As for the packaging and overly critical, I think most people are just having fun with it.

And how is the post you quoted of mine, overly critical?

Like your low-quality typing? It seemed to fit. I mean, how to spell my UID is right on your screen, yet you still failed... :shadedshu: I feel disrespected.:lovetpu:
can't see haters on a 24" 1440p display at 100% res scaling. lol JK. sorry,I actually know your nick but typed it wrong.

and the packaging is friggin awful to be clear,it looks like that educational toy for childern who learn to fit shapes into the right spot.

It's not. You know, I just wish I had more to say at this time about this particular subject but... you guys are busy arguing over small things. So I re-directed you both at me. Let's play nice, m'kay?

I wasn't referring to you directly, but the general tone of the thread. If we could come up with some real feedback to provide to Intel on how they could improve things, maybe they'd listen?

And actually, I'm in a great mood. Sun is shining today, and I haven't seen it in while since the temps are below 0c here as of late. You can check news for Calgary ,see the snow that has dumped locally.

It's better than a plain square box. Especially given the general state of affairs with social media. Gotta do something to stand out, and I think this packaging does, whether for better or worse.

I gave my feedback in the first post - the shape of this box has precisely zero relation to the CPU in any way shape or form, which means they should have done better at that. Why not a 16 sided shape?

As for standing out, yes, absolutely. And its cool to see Intel directly responding to AMD's PR moves as well :)

I think the sticker ruins it,they'd be better off leaving it transparent.

I hadda look at this thread just to see how many pages peeps could argue about packaging. :)

I don't care about packaging, I'd prefer an OEM brown cardboard box.
I don't care about synthetic benchmarks
I don't care about how many cores you have
I don't care how fast it unzips files or does anything else that I either don't do or do while I'm sleeping
I don't care about how fast it does a series of tasks that requires ay user input in between

I care about how fast it is in apps I use where performance matters (primarily AutoCAD) and how many fps it delivers. By setting a baseline with 8 threads) and setting affinity in Task Manager turning off 1 thread at a time, as of yet, I haven't seen anything observable to the eye, or via fps counter, suffer with just 4 cores.

I'm guessing the box was designed this way to rope in buyers who might make purchasing decisions based on the box they're looking at... the 9900k is a hell of a chip, but the box doesn't make it any better. It's not even valuable as a collector's item (that would have been the 8086k), unless the box alone manages to give it that status, somehow.

Im in need to upgrade my setup and im aiming to these chips, but they seems to be too expensive for me !!

450 $ is the right price for a flag mainstream CPU from Intel. Hope they will sell the version without heatsink and a square package.

I recently paid $450 for the 8c/16t i7-7820x... Which I thought was a great deal, so I upgraded, but now that processor is hard to find in stock. Anyhow, I did not delid yet but I am running very cool with an all core overclock at 4.7 Ghz with a 360 mm Rad. I was thinking the i9-9900k would end up about the same price.
