decided to have a blast
only to find that i couldnt continue from my last game save!!!

all my saves are still in my documents location

its just that the game wont recognize them

any ideas

have you updated at all? There are some bugs with the older versions on fallout and save games. And if you are using saves from a different patch they wont work either

If they were created using an xbox live account, you'll have to play via xbox live to access them. If they were created without an xbox live account, you access them by not logging in.

go do your intall folder and name the Fallout3.exe.cat to Fallout3.exe.bak!!! it did work for me:)

ur a star

worked like a treat

thanks man:toast:

That fixed it? I wonder why. My hunch was this had something to with Live. When logged into Live in-game it makes a new folder in the with your Live username and the saves are in there. You can just move them manually.

you should post this in FO3 forum, and thats probably because of mods

Adding mods shouldnt affect the saves. Patches either, they never did me. Sometimes if I launch from the launcher and not the shortcut to the .exe, it doesnt load up Live to access my game.

hey, i just registered to confirm something. it seems i dont have a Fallout3.exe.cat  i'm using patch 1.6 so i dont know if that makes a difference.

i should point out though that im trying to load my saves from when i had no patches installed. so at this point in time i have old saves in the documents\mygames\fallout3\saves\username...

when i start fallout3 the continue and load options are blocked yet the saves are in the save folder. it seems i also cant sign in to live.

any help would be very appreciated as i was close to 100% completion but now have to start again :(

FIXED!

thats rather strange, i put the new saves back into the save folder but this time put one of the old save alongside the new ones. this time i was able to sign in and load a save including the old one! i loaded it and then saved the game. although when it saved it contiued from the new save list.
example:

old save list went from 01 to 88, the new save list which was started after the game was patched went from 01 to 11. i moved 88 into the save folder, loaded it and save the game and instead of being save 89 it actually saved as 12.

it still doesnt make sense that the old saves wouldn't just load though. oh well, hope this helps someone. also now i can play the dlc's continuing with lvl 20 :P

thats why i hate copy protection on games ,they will F everything up:ohwell:

BTW if you rename the fallout 3.exe.cat to .bak it will disable live file check so you can use non profile save games and it also lessens the game crashes:)
