Fastest graphics card for i7-6700

I wouldn't think it's a good idea to consider 'upgrading' to anything in the Pascal series in 2022 -- even the Titan xp.
agree at least some turing rtx 2000 or rtx 3000 or rx6000 is a must since FSR and DLSS would be great for long term.......

Why not? If it's at a good price then yeah, Pascal is worth it. A Titan Xp or 1080ti can still do 4k easily.

My 1080ti can't even do 1440p in Control without downscaling to 1080p and that's at a core clock of 2164. I'd imagine Metro:Exodus and Cyberpunk 2077 would be impossible to play on any 1080ti at 4k without lowering details to the floor.

If my existing 1080ti died I wouldn't consider spending a dime on another one because it would be a dime wasted.

I think from the OP's specs he has an RTX2070 already.

Mine was doing Control at 3440x1440 on medium. Something be wrong with yours.

I had all details to the highest settings in Control so maybe that's why I had to downscale the resolution.
That's expecting too much of your GPU. Control is hard to run to begin with, so being reasonable is required for a smooth experience.

i don't know if this is still helping the OP, but that was my CPU for a while, depending on the games it was showing it's age on a 1060 6GB. I would not go crazy spending without upgrading CPU

True and good eye

a quick question/suggestion for @chctulc

Why don't you upgrade that 2070 to say a 3070 and use the 2070 with the 6700?

A 3050 would be a better match with an i7-6700, but if you already have a 2070, I'd just use that. I picked up a used 2060 Super to use with mine, because it was cheaper than a new 3050. Mine is in an Asus gaming rig, that originally came with a GTX 1080. I tried to match the performance of the GTX 1080 as closely as I could, while getting the advantages of RT and DLSS. It's not my main machine, anymore, because the i7-6700 doesn't even keep up with a Core i3, anymore. There's no need to get carried away with such an old machine.
