Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, the world's best known PC gamer, and Fusion-io join up at the Fatal1ty E3 booth to launch the ioXtreme, a solid state storage device for high-performance PCs and workstations using 64 bit operating systems. The ioXtreme eliminates application latency, delivering the kind of storage performance once limited to the world's fastest supercomputers.
Drawing from Fusion-io's industry-leading solid-state technologies, the ioXtreme is a PCI Express card that sits on the system bus filling the performance gap between RAM and disk drives. It adds 80 GB of non-volatile capacity, exponentially accelerating input and output, including file access, and improving application performance dramatically.

"The ioXtreme supercharges high-end PCs and workstations. I predict this technology will fundamentally change the way software is designed, allowing developers to create a new class of applications that seamlessly handle massive amounts of data," Fatal1ty said. "Imagine playing the most intense game, working on complex 3-D graphics, manipulating massive files, ripping multiple DVDs and installing a new application -- all simultaneously. The technology is crazy and works at the speed I need."

"Johnathan's experience with high-end computing has given him a unique insight into the disruption our core technology brings to all levels of computing," said Steve Wozniak, chief scientist of Fusion-io. "We look forward to working with an incredible young talent like him. The ioXtreme is a good example of how combining the wisdom of veterans, such as myself, with next generation expertise such as Johnathan's, will take Fusion-io's performance revolution into the future."

Scheduled for release in July at a list price of $895, the ioXteme has been architected for prosumers and extreme PC users and is specifically designed for easy upgrades. Through future software releases, the ioXtreme will be able do far more than application acceleration, including features like boot and transparent data migration. Fusion-io and Fatal1ty will be demonstrating the ioXtreme during E3 in booth #2922 South Hall. For more information about Fusion-io and the ioXtreme visit the ioXtreme site.

Do not want. In fact, I can't see anyone wanting this :ohwell: What's the point of these expensive SSD's exactly?

To rake in dough from the kind of people who buy i7 Extremes.

pci-e ssd drive? OMFG LOLZ NO WAI!!!!!!!!! never seen that before.

looks like exactly like everything else that has the fatal1ty brand; overpriced and not anything special even if it was a good deal.

edit-

ROFL. just noticed that's not even a real picture, but a 3D render. pathetic.

Isn't he retired now?

I double click game exe's on my computer and shoot people too.

I too am qualified for work in high-end computing!

Apparently he trained for 2 hours a day, sometimes more. Fuckadoodle-do, I play CoD4 for 2 hours a day, sometimes more...

the guys great im not hating. I just... I just got gigaworks T40 II speakers and there awsome i thought id check out whatelse creative made in headphones... EVERYTHING had that ugly logo on the side of it... i think its cool a player can "get a shoe" in the gaming world but after a while gosh lol lets all take a break. How many years has it ben the moterboard was ok. (that was one of his first things right?) Making a new one every year OK. But its getting out of control reads like a resident evil script its EVERYWHERE and u cant kill them all fast enough lol LEFT FOR DEAD FATAL1TY DLC!

with a Branding Label like that, I want to bet the Drive will cost more than triple of that of other PCI-E SSDs.

THATS INSANE!!!!!

It should cost at LEAST $8000!!! C'mon! the worlds leading expert in l33t stood near it at a press conference & that shoud make it at least 300% more fasterer than anything or sumfin' or nothin, but SHUDDUP cos we all love fatal1ty anyway so SHUDDUP!

sigh.

sad part is when i asked OCZ if the fatality name sold things, they confirmed it did. it outsold their identical, non fatality product by a decent margin, despite the higher price.

"Fatal " prices

Er, who is mr. fatality? Yes, I've heard the "brand" name quite a few times used by some company to try and help them sell mainboards, but TBH, I've no idea why people would by a mainboard because some gamer (who didnt us it) just sold his "name" for branding purposes. What exactly did this guy do? Was he good at playing games? Minesweeper or something?

IMO, the "best known" PC gamer is either that German kid who smashed his keyboard in a temper tantrum, or that Asian guy who died in an internet cafe due to playing 48hrs in a row (or more) without taking a break for food or sleep.

Who do you think is the best known PC gamer? Any other people come to mind?

'Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, the world’s best known PC gamer'

There's a Wikipedia page about him listing his accomplishments, if you're interested.

^ thanks. OK.

Perhaps I need to start a wiki page on that German kid. LOL. He could brand endorse robust laptops and peripherals like keyboards! LOL. The he could be the most famous PC gamer.

Funny really, the phrase "world's most famous" when really it should be world's most promoted, and now, consequently, perhaps arguably the most well know name in PC gaming

I has a sad. :(
Have a cookie, cookies makes you happy. *gives cookie*

I do understand that brand MUST cost more, BUT how MUCH MORE???
Like 2x to 3x more isnt a bit too much? But if it sells... why not though...

wendel became famous for winning an american quake 3 tournament.

The thing is, none of this hardware has ANYTHING to do with how he won. if stuff was going to be branded, it should only be hardware he used to win.

unsuspecting customers may think that the hardware has his brand slapped on it, it must be good and worth the price.

He is a master at twitch gaming. His endorsement doesn't make a product better.... it just makes money.

I have a fatal1ty set of OCZ RAM because it was on sale for really cheap after rebate. It was cheaper than the standard version with the same speed and timings so I bought it.

People usually buy his endorsed products because they think it looks cooler with the color schemes they use. I personally care more about how something performs instead. But I think many people have purchased one thing over the other because they liked the styling more. Just look at the average car buyer for example. Its marketing at its core which moves that niche market, and often times sideways from performance advances.
