Faulty i7 920?

I received a i7 920 / EVGA x58 3x SLI combo today (bought used from eBay).

At everything stock, untouched, I get BSOD during Prime95. If I bump CPU Vcore by one step, it ran for 15min successfully.

Is this a faulty chip if it won't even run successfully at stock settings?

Temps are not an issue. Running liquid cooling.

EDIT
To get it from stock 2.66Ghz to even just 3.0Ghz, I'm having to bump VCORE up from 1.28125 to 1.29375 and CPU VTT from 1.15 to 1.175. Should it not be OC'ing this much on stock volts?

Make sure your water block is on securely and everything is where it's supposed to be in the water loop. Also download a program like Core Temp to check your temps anyways to rule out overheating.

And is this just happening in Prime 95 or in games and/or randomly at idle?

Monitoring temps with EVGA E-Leet. On full load, no core is above 52 degrees.

Happening in Prime95.

Use realtemp and check it with that. Also are you sure its the chip and not the motherboard?

Unfortunately, no.

Realtemp and Eleet show same temps.

Luckly the chip has a three year warranty from intel and they are very good about rma's.

This is the one I picked up used from eBay though. I doubt Intel will cover that.

those temps are stock cpu speeds w/ customer WC or h50/70? what's the vid of the chip too?

Everything stock, custom WC loop, idle temps are around 25. Ambient right now is 25.

With everything at stock, I was just running the windows version of Memtest and got BSOD. Gonna run a thorough Memtest now.

I have found that most of my issues with my fleet of i7's are memory related. What voltage is you ram rated for and is it set correctly in bios?

RAM is rated at 1.65. I've set it to XMP Profile and entered all stock voltages manually in BIOS. Gonna do a 12hr Prime95 now.

At work right now, this is what it was set at:

Frequency 1600Mhz
Timings 9-9-9-24 @ 1T
Voltage 1.65V

RAM is this one: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3...

Also, another problem I'm having is:

I have the multiplier in BIOs at 20. Intel Turbo, speedstep etc is disabled.

yet, when I boot in, CPU-Z shows it to be running at 133x21.

+1 whenever I had trouble on any pc whether overclocked or not it was nearly always memory related. If after checking the ram ratings and bios settings as suggested by Buck Nasty your problem still isn't solved - try testing your sticks individually one by one.

Yeah, just to rule out any memory issues, I'll run memtest thoroughy once I get back.

Is the windows version of memtest any good, or should I run the bootable version?

EDIT:
With everything at stock (however processor was running at 133x21 instead of 133x20, see above post), I left it to fold last night. Judging by my points today, it has failed already.

Here's my modus operandi. I go home and test memory thoroughly. If memory passes memtest without any hitches, I'll follow this guide to OC;

what 920 is it first the D0 or C0?? can you please along with the eleet voltage page give use full cpu-z screens?? i.e. the first page on cpu-z and the mem page and mainboard one as well. intel will only RMA if you have the stock fan as well, they take a number off the serial number to verify it was sent with that batch of chips, they did this when I rma'd my i3

I read all of this and I am thinking remount the CPU. The other suggestions are all very valid and I never liked XMP settings, but if those fail reinstall the cpu, if possible examine the LGA pads and look to see how central and solid the indentations are, you will need magnification to see them good.

It is D0. I will post all screens as soon as I get back home. I do have the stock cooler but I'm really hoping I don't need to take the RMA route. I'm a total noob when it comes to Intel OC'ing (always used AMDs my entire life), so I'm hoping its something I can fix.
