Hi all!

Hope this is the right section, couldnt really find a more appropriate one...............

Anyway, a company I am quite close to and do a lot of work for has a client that insists on doing everything by fax even though its completely outdated. I guess the longer it takes the more time they hang on to their money ;)

Anyway, the company I work for is have a clearout and wants to get rid of their bulky fax machine and do away with a fax machine completely as they only have one client that uses fax. My question is, using a internal or external fax modem can I set this up for them to use their main office PC to send and receive faxes via their existing phoneline (UK btw)

In an ideal scenario there would be a fax modem, some software for the sending and receiving of docs. Docs would be produced in MS Word then sent via fax and received in my the same way.

Is this possible at all or is it best to just get another fax machine?

Cheers, Chris

Thanks for that,

I am aware that there are websites out there that handle faxes both in and out and give you a fax number to boot. Some are quite reasonable for what they cost, however the company I am looking into this on behalf of doesnt want to sign up to any subscribed services they want something super cheap. now that the owner know that you can get a USB fax modem for under £6.00 he got his mind set on something like this.

I'd recommend a multifunction printer (scanner, copier, printer, and fax). MFCs are not clunky because it gets used for more than just faxing, they can be running 24/7 with minimal impact on power bill, and they can be networked so many computers can easily print to and receive scans from it.

I <3 Brother because of their lightweight, bloat-free drivers.

Using a computer for faxing is more trouble than its worth. An excellent 56K modem manufacturer never existed, the software is rubbish, and the computer has to be on to send/receive faxes (phone tag, anyone?).

^ What Ford said. It costs very little to have a modem included with a MFC, and these days they can forward to email.

i've been using rapidfax, and switched to fax it nice a year ago or so because they are cheaper
