My Sandy Bridge motherboard went rigor mortis on me so looking at a $1500 build. My intent is for it to doing gaming, productivity and media consumption on it at 2,560 x 1,440.

Check This list please, replaced GTX 1080 for GTX 1070 and added an UPS for extra care on such amamzing rig sir, also added some quite diferent components,

Windows 10 for sure...

I agree. W7 is already 7 years old.

If still open to different cases, I highly recommend the Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window. Great cooling and great cooling options, great build quality, great noise suppression, and great (IMO) conservative looks. And for just two more days, a fantastic price at NCIXUS (even with $20 for shipping). The R5 with worth considering too.

If you already own Win 7 just save some money and use that, there is no reason to get Win 10 over 7 right now and when there is a reason, you can probably get Win 10 for cheaper by then.

That's just a waste of time, in the last months all what i have seen on TPU are threads related to W10 and all the problems/ issues/ driver incompatibility ect ect ect.

OEMs can never, with no exceptions, "legally" be transferred to a new computer. So if your W7 is an OEM/System Builder license (or a Upgrade License used to upgrade a OEM), you must buy a new license when buying/building a new computer - if you want to be legal.

W10 is faster and more secure - reason enough to go with W10. W10 was designed around UEFI and the newest hardware is designed to take advantage of W10 features.

W7 was, no doubt, a great OS - the best since XP - until W10. But again, it is 7 years old.

Faster boot time, with or without SSD's on W10 itrs pretty pretty noticiable! also all the enviroment is faster, even with low end hardware!

I know the difference between retail and OEM licenses, he mentioned keeping his Win 7 so I assumed it was retail, and just because you and Microsoft say Win 10 is more secure does not make it so, I want my OS to be secure from Microsoft themselves as well as from other sources.

Good find @little cat but personally I wouldn't go SeaDead Barracuda I would get a better drive not even sure if Sea's new IronWolf drives are good Sea just got such a bad reputation I rather buy the extra getting a HGST/Hitachi or WD RE drive because u want ur files to be safe not have a disk u can RMA that can die after not even 24hours of use after u get it back from RMA.
