For visibility/coloring there are several options.
One thing I've done before was to add a little Dexcool antifreeze (The orange stuff) for this, just enough to give it visibility to the eye and no more. Regular antifreeze can be used the same way if you want in the same way. I've never had any problems with it before so the colorizing part of the coolant is minor at worst for me.
