Flashing the BIOS to solve problems and the warrantry... (HD5750)

Hello! I'm new here...

Anyway, I bought a XFX Radeon HD5750 1gb DDR5 a week ago and since the first day until now I tried everything to solve it's random graphic problems (crazy horizontal lines appear all over the screen in 2D stuff and during 3D games there are "lost" giant triangles going everywhere) and it's other problem, the card dies for a moment and recovers after I attempt to turn on aero or run the window 7 test thing. I did MANY different tests and found out a few things, the graphic problems disappear completely under Windows 7 x86 but they appear under the x64 version and during the windows tests I noticed the video card always died during the DirectX10 tests, once they were over the card would return to normal.

Well, I read MANY threads in many forums about problems with the 5xxx series, particularly problems with the 5750 and 5770, there were many different "fixes" that worked for many different people, but none seemed to work for me, things like, trying different monitors, different OS, trying different drivers (tried 10.2, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 and a beta one without number:wtf:), about the 10.9, I formated my HDD again and reinstalled Windows 7 x64, but this time I pulled out the internet cable so it wouldn't update anything and then installed the catalyst 10.9 again, at first the graphic errors appeared but after I changed the resolution they disappeared completely for some reason, but even so the card still dies under aero or dx10 stuff, so, the last thing that I didn't try yet is changing the iddle clocks on the card's BIOS from 157mhz and 300mhz to 400mhz and 900mhz, I want to try that as a last resort but I read that the warratry is void if you change the BIOS, so what I wanna know is this, let's say you save the original BIOS on your HDD and then flash a modified one, but it doesn't fix the problem, then, if you flash the card with the ORIGINAL BIOS back will the card retain the warrantry?

ps: sorry for the long post... :o

specs:

I would RMA that thing its toast

I guess that's what I should do, I'm already talking to the seller about it. Thanks anyway.

However, I'm still curious if replacing the original BIOS with the SAME BIOS would still void the warrantry...:wtf:

it shouldn't if XFX recommend you do so and supply you with the files to do it but doing so on your own accord could void your warranty especially if it fails and you brick the card.... Best just to RMA it

hmm... Well, I sent the card back anyway, now I'm waiting for them to say if the card is defective or not. (I hope it is defective, I tried everything here and nothing worked... :()

Thanks anyway.

I would've saved the original .bin file and reflash it incase something went wrong. Either way, you did the right thing and mailed it back for RMA. They have great customer service. My crossfire bridge broke and they sent me a new one for free, it only took less than a week from West Coast to East Coast
