Flashing XFX HD5970 to Sapphire Bios?

As stated within another thread no matter what version of drivers installed no fan control is available to within CCC. This was with my Sapphire OC Edition 5970.

This thread http://www.overclock.net/ati/614095-...ntrol-fix.html should provide all information needed. I am sure that some XFX guys had success using this bios on these branded cards.

Yo guys, just a simple question I have to ask, I want to flash or update the bios on my XFX hd5970 but with a sapphire bios, just wanted to know can it be done and if anyone knows any simple guides, cheers.

You tried their own new bios ?. Your's is the CNB9 right ?.

My guess they been screwing around with the bios for the 5970 before they released it and had to release a new,so was thinking this would fix CHAOS_KILLA'S issue that he would get the CCC Overdrive back and they fixed the fan speed or what ever else needed doing.

I already done a fresh reinstall, still same issues. I just had a play through in crysis, it was playable but still not fully enjoyable, playing at 1920X1080 no AA and 16AF, every time i put AA on it just stutters and lags heavily even with 2X on so i didnt bother with it which is BS. I sometimes get blank screens for several seconds then the ATI recovery driver shit pops up down the bottom right corner on the task bar, Im losing faith in this card and ati as well but i dont want too, im never getting XFX though. I got the 9.12 drivers plus the hotfixes that go with em, still no fan control but no surprise their.

Im about to do it now actually, just one question, do I uninstall my drivers now then do the bios thing, then after i've done the bios update reinstall drivers, is that right

Do you know anyone else who has a machine you could test it in. You're depressing me man, I feel bad as my 5870 is just doing so well in everything. The 59 should be killing...

I know from owning two gtx 280's and a gtx 295 that for some reason sli just didn't work with my rig, it hated it. Maybe your setup is equally finicky, try and get a 5870?

Whoa Im so sorry that im making you depressed, I did have a HD5870 but I sold it for this heavy unreliable brick, I wish I never did. single gpus for me always, and yeah u might be right about finicky hardware, just have to wait and see, trying to get RMA, playin the waiting game.

Yeah man, most of us here have hardware addictions, sometimes you've gotta tame them. I'm going to do everything I can to not buy another 5870 or upgrade till there's a need. I did the same thing you did with the 295 thinking two chips on the same boards would have better results than the sli on two chips.. Now I know. Hope your rma is speedy.

You install the hotfix the same way you install any new drivers.

Btw, on a ATi Dual GPU card, only one GPU (the one closer to the exhust) controlls the fan speed.
So I guess XFX might be dumb enough to flash both rom with the same Bios

To your other question you update the bios and reinstall the drivers and the hotfix if needed.

But i'd get the same card my self. Although if AMD don't sort out the HDMI 1080 issue's i have i'll be going nV my self too unless at that time they have a worse issue next year lol.

True, you got a good point, its just you spend $1000 on a piece of computer hardware and you cant wait for it to get here and then 2 weeks later WHALLLAAA!!!! it arrives, you set it up, and then you realize its faulty, anger to the max

it will work... you simply need force the flash... there will be a command included in your flash utility...
