Though the actual giveaway is on Namco Bandai so I doubt that it's a scam. Though haven't got a key at least not yet.

Regardless, what was posted is more of a lottery than a give-away as we can not go and get what's being shown. It comes off as advertising, which does not seem appropriate for this thread.

Uhh, what makes you believe that??? The terms & conditions are pretty clear:

"The Winners will be chosen as follows: “first come, first served”. Therefore, the first participant to participate in the Contest will win one (1) Game key out of the total of one hundred thousand (100,000) game keys, the second participant will win one (1) game key out of the remaining ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine (99,999) game keys and the one hundred thousandth participant will win the final remaining one hundred thousandth game key. Each Winner will be personally notified by the Organizer by email on15th January 2024 3pm (CET) to 19th January 2024 3pm (CET)(the “Notification”), and will receive their Game key on the same day. To avoid confusion, non-Winners will not receive any email. The Game key will allow each Winner to play the game on Steam."

Sure, you have to jump through some hoops like registering on their website & linking your Steam account, but that's something you already have to do for tons of paid games (3rd party account requirement). I am totally fine giving up some privacy for a FREE 20€ game (which also still costs ~7€ from key resellers). They also don't spam you with eMails, only 1 per month (which goes straight to the spam folder).

Financially it is FREE since you do not pay money to get it. You only pay with your personal data, like you do each time you visit a "free to use" website, or your "free" email provider, and so on.

But you are right, technically it isn't free. There is nothing free in the world, except maybe air. For which I am sure someday they will also find a way to tax it, lol.

But as the OP has no "Terms & Conditions" that would exclude such giveaways your assertion that this giveaway doesn't fit in this thread is pretty narrow minded. Tbh. it's up to each out there how much they want to give up for a free game. If you feel not comfortable just ignore the offer.

It's just an opt-in to allow the game developer or publisher (Quantum Astrophysicists Guild in this case) to add your e-mail address to their marketing list, nothing sinister.

If you don't select the checkbox, you won't get any e-mail from Quantum Astrophysicists Guild. If for whatever reason you change your mind later, you can simply visit the Quantum Astrophysicists Guild website and sign up for their e-mail newsletter there.

Remember that Epic Games already has all of your contact information when you created your account, they don't need it. And they maintain their own e-mail list and opt-in/opt-out database.

You only really need to cough up your real contact information if you intend to purchase from them for anti-fraud purposes (your address on file must match credit card billing address, etc.).

If you never intend to purchase any content ever from Epic, you can use a tosser e-mail address that's not associated with your real identity and leave the address info blank.

I do the latter.

I don't know if one can buy Epic Games gift cards. That might be one way to add cash credit to a bogus account (without linking a credit/debit card). But that's a discussion for elsewhere since this thread is about free games...

Anyhow returning to the main topic, I checked Epic Games for their weekly freebie yesterday and found nothing. Today I rechecked and found Sail Forth which I added to my Epic library.
