I have a friend having trouble. Not sure what to tell him. I have the same exact video card and I have no issues at all. If anyone has any ideas we are open to try them. I will copy his post here and take suggestions since I have very little new advise to offer him. Personally I think it has to be software related I do not believe the hardware is bad at this point anyway. He is not an OCer and his card was bought not a month after I got mine so it is less than 2 or 4 months old.

Hello All...
I am very frustrated with this whole AA3 not working for me. I will try to describe my problem the best I can and if anyone has ANY ideas, I am all ears...
My System Specs:
Motherboard: ASUS Commando LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
Processer: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale 3.33GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Memo
Video Card: ASUS EAH4870 DK TOP/HTDI/512MD5 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V Power Supply
My Problem:
I can launch AA3 and login with no problem. I go to multiplayer and can get the list of online servers. When I connect to a server I see the splash screen of the map that is loading. As soon as the server's welcome text comes up, my primary monitor goes black. My secondary monitor takes over the desktop. I have to reboot to get the primary monitor to work again.

Here is what my "ACEEventLog" Event Log says.

I have Googled these error but came up empty.
This is a freshly formatted WinXP Pro SP3 machine.
What I have tried:
My initial install of AA3 was with Steam. I totally deleted Steam & AA3. Re-installed with BigDownload. Still had the problem so I uninstalled & re-install again with BigDownload. I have updated PunkBuster and installed the AA3 3.0.3 patch.
My original video card Driver was the ATi Catalyst driver v.9.6 Date: 6/15/2009. I uninstalled that and downloaded & installed the Asus version of this driver. Same problem. Uninstalled the Asus driver and went back to the ATi driver. I followed the Tweak Guide for ATi to total remove the Asus driver before I installed the ATi driver.
I have read tons of forums post with no luck. I have tried to delete the AA3 temp files as well as deleting my system temps files (%Temp%). I have all the Microsoft Updates including .NET
Side Note: I am leaving for a short Vacation on Sunday and will be back on Wednesday. I will try any suggestions before I leave or when I get back.
**Sorry for the long Post**
Thanks in advanced to ANY suggestions...

My reply
I feel it has to be software or a setting. Is this is the only issue you have is AA3?
What resolution are you running on each monitor and at what refresh rate? I run 2 CRT monitors and have used the 9.4,9.5, and 9.6 Catalyst with no issues. My advise would be to uninstall one monitor and try it with just one installed. If still having issues uninstall the ATI drivers, all ASUS software for the card, and run CCleaner then defrag the hard drive. Reboot and install the latest drivers from ATI (should be 9.6) I do not run any software or drivers from ASUS on my machine. Do this all with just one monitor connected to your PC. See what happens then with just 1 monitor. Once you get it up and running AA3 (It should now) make sure to try it after each piece of software you install if you use the ASUS stuff. I'm thinking one of those caused me some grief but it has been awhile since I used any of it. Let me know.
His response
Thanks for the replys so far....
In the beginning I did have both monitors and the game resolutions set different. Since last Sunday I set the both monitors & AA3 to 1024x768.
Altered, I am only having problems with AA3. Last Saturday night play AA2 during the =WTF= matches with no problems.
Last night I did remove all traces of the prevoius Asus & ATi divers before reinstalling the ATi Catalyst driver v.9.6 Date: 6/15/2009. I did think about unhooking the second monitor but it was late last night when I thought of it. I will try it tonight or tomorrow. I will be at the Phillies vs Mets game tonight.
Altered, do you have any errors in your "ACEEventLog" Event Log?
Last night I reinstalled the DirectX Drivers from Microsoft. I am not on my PC right now so I will post the log when I get a chance.
*** Thanks for all the help and support. ***
I am running out of ideas. If all this does not work I may try a different video card.
This is where it stands and he/we needs assistance. Any ideas fellas?
