Frustrating "BOOT MGR" error

I've never tried it, and will never try it for any partitioning operations as long as I have Acronis or Paragon at the ready. Windows 7 Manager don't use its own partitioning tools, it links to Windows Disk Management. Although Windows Disk Management has the ability to set a partition Active, I couldn't find an option to set a partition Inactive.

Actually Windows Disk Management is just an interface for diskpart. you can use diskpart to set a partition to inactive.

Diskpart is an alternative, but you are correct Diskpart can be used to set a partition Active or Inactive.

Use the Win7 disc to do a "startup repair". should fix the bootloader issue.

do u get "check sum" error?

even if not, try replacing the mobo battery (CR2302). this should fix the BIOS from resetting.
the battery hardy costs 60cents.

it could also be a Windows problem, and like others said, boot from the windows disc and launch startup repair.

Guys, keep in mind the rig is running and then locks up. Its not that I had it off and it doesn't want to boot from the drive. Seems like if during use the windows tries to boot from the other drive or something. I mean I don't mind trying the startup repair thing, but it's not during startup, its during use. Of course, once you have to restart it because of the lockup, then yeah it starts backup. But it all starts while in windows.

Maybe a bad or corrupted driver ? some thing is telling windows to shut down . check out the power management settings and the hibernation settings as well .

Been there done that :banghead: It hasn't happened anymore since I have not opened AIM. can AIM possibly have something to do? If by tonight the rig is still going fine, Im going to open AIm and see if that causes it to do what it was doing.

Well if it only is happening when you open up AIM then I would venture to say that is causing the issue . Maybe that it is not compatible with some driver or the OS it's self .

I haven't confirmed it is AIM just yet, but it's looking like it is. MSN causes my computer to crash and now possibly AIM. How do I connect with people on the interwebz?

Strange . You have window 7 this should not be happening at all . any log files on the errors or lock up's at all ?

Which one in particular do you wish to see?

sorry was just subscribing as I went to check your problem out...:o

any who, in the bios under Storage Configuration...Im guessing you have your SSD on sata port 1 through 4 right? probably do. Ok did you change sata port 1-4 from IDE to AHCI?

If not I think you should, I read up on ssd's and they say you need to change it for the drive to work proper.

Its in 1-4 but not set to AHCI I think. If it happens again I'll change it to that. So far it's working without AIM being open. :wtf:

 I'm trying to see if by any chance it was AIM causing this, just like MSN causes my PC to crash. Just testing for now.

I hope it help man .

I'll read it in details shortly. This thing is still chugging along fine. I'm really thinking it's AIM causing some sort of incompatibility with a driver or something.

Yeah me too . :toast:

Ok, so last night I opened AIM and today around noon time the PC crashed and did the same thing as reported in the OP. So looks like AIM is the culprit :(

I'll go a week or so without opening it now to confirm it was that. Maybe it was just going to happen. If it goes four or five days without it happening then def. it was AIM because with AIM open the PC crashed at least once every two days. So we'll see how that goes.

CP, if you need a messenger program to use, and you have AIM, Yahoo, etc. you should really check out trillian.
