FS/FT Title Editing

Can anybody come up with an example of abusing it? I just can't think of one. If there is an easy way for it to be abused, by all means, I'll agree with keeping it the way it is now....

I've honestly been trying to think of an example too because I don't want this to cause problems, but so far I too have come up with none.

I don't see any reason another user needs to post in a FS/FT thread the in the first place. PM's work if you want to discuss a sale, the report button works if there is trouble. I especially don't like the fact that post count and the thanks button works in FS/FT threads.

Agreed—those were actually other things I've had in mind to suggest. At XS only the sellers can post in their own threads, which threw me off at first but like you said, makes sense. One exception is that it's nice to see who posts in FS threads saying "hey this member is a good seller." When I see someone I trust post good things about a seller I'm not familiar with, it makes a big difference. Other than that, the BST section really does generate a lot of useless fluff. This probably deserves its own topic for discussion ... if anyone feels like creating one, have at. I've also been wondering if we could have our own trader rating system ... oi, I better stay on topic.

I believe Heatware would be a good indication as to a whether or not the seller is reputable. Actually, we should make it so that only users can post like XS, then we can also make a Tips/Tricks/Trolls forum like HardForum. This would stop the excessive bumping, off-topic posts, and increase traders' incentive to write up Heatware evaluations.

I agree that posts in the FS/FT should not affect post count, but the thanks button should still be there if you get a bump from a fellow member.

bumps are not thanks worthy. it just encourages useless bumps.

I still think user ability to change thread titles would stop added threads and things alike pming a mod is somthing peoople dont like to do a lot because they have crap to do just like everyone else. hell woulda stopped me from making the thread Im about to make any second now

they're there so you know how active a user is, and how respected they are by the TPU community. Thanking bumps is not showing that they're a good user, just that they want your stuff

I think the extra work for W1zz (writing the code to make sure users can only edit their own titles and only in the b/s/t forum) is not worth the effort.

Any comments from W1zzard? Would you be willing to do this or is it too much hassle?

But like I said earlier, they do it with vBulletin at OCN and I tend to think W1zz is as capable as anyone over there.

No. The mods that control that forum, senior mods and administrators.

This suggestion has received overwhelmingly positive feedback and support from TPUers and seems it would be simple to implement. It's proven elsewhere and the few questions raised against it seem to have been effectively rebutted. What would it take to actually push the change through (a vote of the mods, a talk with W1zzard, etc.)? Thank you to the powers that be for your time and consideration. If there's anything I can do to help, I'd be happy to.

thats my opinion now as well.

Its not like we're letting people delete threads or anything, just change titles... and so far, i cant see any real way to abuse it.

cant we just have trusted members, having the ability to change their thread title. after all it should only take the same amount of time for the user and the mod. Simply ask for rights in that sub forum and then a mod giving them that right. Although it might need a new sub user class creating not sure on Vbulletin.

Tbh, it is a pain in the ass for us halfway across the world when all the mods on the FST section are on a completely different time. You could say i could post later but sometimes there is work and family life I have to contend with.

With the Trusted members or known members with good heatware just having the ability 'activated' it would leave less stress on the mods/admins.

But over all i cant see any reason not to allow changing of titles, although some 48hr rule or something or we would be constantly clicking thinking it was a new thread and this could be a form of ABUSE by the user.
