I've OC'd to 4.8 Ghz and it looks like this:

My cores are running @low Frequency. Not sure what's wrong.

Max processor speed is showing 4.8ghz. The CPU downclocks when not under load. Perfectly normal.

71c on your CPU socket is a bit high.

My core went to 66.6 and socket to 79 and then they came down with time.

Is that fine?

recommended is 62*c on core 72*c on socket

tbh if I were stressing id make sure either was under 60*c

and those frequencies are at full load erocker, the all should say 4.8 etc

disable APM, C6, C1E, turbo core, Spread sprectrum

cool the vrms, fan on the heatsink or something

the reason clocks are dropping is thermal throttle or something, disable all the above and thermal cpu protection.

make sure to stop testing when too hot, maybe why it throttled tbh

All of the cores are at 4879Mhz under load. No need to disable the power saving features at all. The reason the clocks are dropping is because they aren't being used.

What is being used to load the CPU?

All of them are disabled...

isn't my cooler good enough?

Like even at 4.5 Ghz and lower voltage temps rose above 75 C

look at the screenshot. hwinfo, current column 100% and 1 core on 4.88 ghz the rest are throttling on the volts/frequencies

if that's still being stressed and clocks dropping etc , its throttling down

and what are you testing with?

Core parking...

it does also make a difference with what program is being used to apply load.

I thought core parking only happened at idle, part of power savings.

could always try the patches for the FX, google will show them straight away.

I reckon its temps myself, beyond the safe limit and throttled. could also be vrm temps, if the vrms are burning hot then that's the culprit.

When running Prime95, does it show all the cores in the program?

Yes it does.

Only after a few minutes the cores down clock.

Definitely seems like overheating then. Make sure you have good airflow over the CPU/VRM area (as D1nky mentioned). You might want to reseat your CPU cooler using some new thermal paste too.

yea and keep those temps below 60*c to be safe, or that chip will have a shorter life.

maybe try get the ambients lower to help keep temps down as well

I see no difference with my new thermal paste antec formula 7.

only at 4.4 my temps stay below 70C, even at 4.5 same temps as 4.8 just a couple of degress more at 4.8 though.

sounds to me like the case has bad airflow because of those socket temps ,that or overstressed cpu cooler ,can you fill out your system specs as it would help us considerably in helping you:).

whilst a bit long a read, its well worth reading though this thread

I've filled in my system specs.

I have a fan at front and side for intake and I have installed this Corsair H80i at rear as exhaust(though corsair suggests intake). Have tried intake also, but no difference.

My ambients are pretty high around 28-30C.

dude you have your northbridge is deffinately set too high at 3000+ im surprised its stable but the cpu has a bus thats synced with that (Cpunb) , lower it to 25-2600 and your temps should drop considerably also are you auto volt overclocking?

I know Hwinfo is missreporting its speed as it does on mine but cpuid says yours is at 3166 , for eg mines at 2646Fsb and Ht also at 2646 now with vref set to 220 Vref x22 for 4.85ghz cpu at 1.48core volts 1.4 cpunb volts and 1756 Mhz meory at cas 8(memory speed above this creates heat and does little for performance ,ive tried) lower that and youll be fine (via bios multiplier) i asked about volts because auto is bad at that speed.

thats the HT link on cpuz

hwinfo will say closest to what ever is on the sensor, so 2200 could be anything up to 2400mhz.

still doesn't explain throttling, and HT link only gets tested properly in games etc

be easier if he posted a valuation!

fyi its quite easy to get stable at those clocks with a 2700mhz cpunb

Where do you see that? In the pic he posted it says 2200 mhz.

With higher ambient temps you're going to get higher idle and load temps. I think you need to set your overclocking expectations a little lower. At least try working with less voltage to your CPU core.

Also, for now stop overclocking using the CPU/ht bus. Just go by multiplier. Overclocking HTT makes little to no difference anyways.

yea and expecting a h80 to do 4.8ghz 1.5v + is a big ask, especially with those ambients.

but if you've tested and it was stable at those clocks, youll never create that heat in gaming etc so youll be ok 24/7

I would advise against full load for too long until you work out the throttling issue and decrease temps, probably related tbh

as i said that miss reports Nb speed , TPU's own cpuz ,also shown shows mine right all the time and is saying his is at 3166:)

ive double and tripple checked , look at his pics cpu-z bit

firstly thats still a bit high for HT:), second mine says that is the Nb but if hes (OP)in doubt of what im saying the memory tab in cpuz also shows Nb and id bet his is high:D
