I called out for some help in fighting the never-ending stream of motherboards that come my way, and G.Skill sent none other than the god of war kit, ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB, to fight beside me. Can these G.Skil ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB sticks turn the tide in the battle for top-level memory performance for a good price?

Dave, would it be possible to get some AMD platform testing in the future as well? I don't mean for you to double your workload but maybe just a quick test to see what settings work and perhaps an overclock.

I'd love to, but that'd involve me buying CPUs, too. I don't have any modern AMD CPUs, just 6800K/FX-8350, and neither are very good chips for memory clocking, unfortunately. With a few CPUs, I'd gladly do both AMD/Intel testing.

Honestly, I've been waiting for AMD/Intel to adopt DDR4 before making any real changes. Kind of hard to believe that DDR3 is still being used, but at the same time ,that also leaves us with many options out there to choose from, although some of the best DIMMS for benching are already long gone and discontinued.

You couldn't get much out of the 6800K?

I found the Richland processors not too bad. I got some RipjawXs 2133CL10 to 2500CL10 on my Athlon 760K, but it took 1.375v on the CPU-NB for stability.

Too bad is not 2x8GB ... :D

eh ... i have some ARES in my main build but the 2133 11-11-11-30 2x4gb kit :D (and they are orange instead of blue ... :D )

i second you, i have a X4-760K in my mainrig (after having a testdrive with a A10-7700K) i have to check the volt and timing ... i'm not used tho have such timing on a RAM

It's the "G.Skill ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB 2x 4GB DDR3" wich the title also says.

And not "The 16 GB (2x 8GB) GSkill ARES ARES F3-2400C11D-8GAB kit..." What's stated in the "Value & Conclusion" part.

i used 2x4gb gskill ares 1600mhz cl 9 about 3 month, and one of them is dead.and rma it with gskill sniper and until now (1&half year) no problem.i think heatspreader in ares not very good and more hot compare to sniper, even at same spec

a 1600 should not need a heatspreader .... so unless you tried to overvolt and overclock it, it might have been a faulty kit, mine is a 2133 Ares and never had any problems until now (knock on wood tho ... after what you stated :D ) and it's in a µATX setup (even got it running at 2300 no problems at all )

maybe i got defect memory but i only running it @ 1333mhz because my platform is old(lga 775) and even @ 1333mhz heatspreader in ares more hot compare to gskill sniper when i touch them

Running the ARES 2133 MHz C9 for nearly a year now, rock solid.
