G733ZW 12900H + 3070 Ti High CPU Temps and Low CPU Package Power

Hello everyone, I would like your help for this problem that caught my attention on the G733ZW model computer that I just bought.

While the system is idle, the CPU suddenly reaches 90-95 degrees and drops back to 40-45 degrees. In Turbo Mode, Cpu Package Power sees maximum 110-115W values, when I research other users with the same computer can see 125-130W values. In simple games, the temperature values are 80-85 degrees on average and can suddenly reach 95 degrees in the game.

Yes. quick spikes in clock frequency will do that. The temps go down once the fan kicks in. This is very common for laptops in my opinion. I'm sure having a silent fan profile doesn't help either.

I don't have any problems with fan noise. only the sudden rise of these temperature values made me suspicious. One last question, while performing a CPU stress test, the CPU Package temperature value is fixed at 94-95 degrees. As soon as I finish the test, it drops to 40-45 degrees again. Plugged in and in Turbo mode, is this normal too?

It's an 100W CPU in a laptop, it's going to jump to 90C+ all the time.

Yes. LoL is a CPU-centric game and that kind of system behavior is normal.

To improve thermals and reduce the temp spikes, increase your fan curve in your BIOS settings. In most situations, you can set your fans to a minimum of 40% without increasing noise, depending on the fans and how much noise you feel is acceptable. For example I have my fans set to a minimum of 50% and have them set to 80% at 70c and 100% at 80c. Because of that curve I rarely see my CPU go above 65c. The noise my system outputs is audible, but not annoying. I would rather my system be cool and make some noise I can live with than run hot.

I agree with what you said yes. I don't care about the fan noise. but I couldn't find the fan section in the bios settings…

Oh wow. The ASUS Strix laptops should have fan profiles that you can set the curve for in the UEFI BIOS. They should be in there somewhere in the advanced settings.

Download Asus Armoury Crate, should be some fan curve settings in there.

Long way from some control to full control. They could have a couple profiles to choose from or let you adjust the curve upwards manually, without compromising safety.

I imagine that you can set some custom fan curves but they're probably very constrained and will get overridden if the temps are too high.

All the laptops I have worked on have bad cooling. One with an AMD cpu hits 96c just because of Windows defender and then idles at 60c. This is when it boosts fully in Windows 10 when connected to the mains. Really procrastinating over changing the thermal paste.

Ok, they could set a minimum, but to lock out controls completely seems like a moronic move.

I bought the same laptop and its temp behavior totally stunned me. It jumps from 45 to 96 in milliseconds and then goes back down just as fast. It happens all the time and the Limit box in ThrottleStop is like a discotheque. Sometimes PROCHOT lights up (95 C), but the highest temp recorded is 85. Never seen something like this. The PROCHOT under the table shines most of the time just as THERMAL in Limit box on Core and Ring. The fan curve is set to hit 100% at 60 C but guess what - it happens with a huge delay, long after the spike series calm down for a while. Is this really a normal behavior? Is yours still working the same way?
PS: What is even more strange, the laptop makes 18 000 points in CB23, while the average result for this CPU is around 16 500.
