does non-gs have identical cooler?
I would assume so, but no way to know until someone buy one and looks at the cooler configuration (you can probably do so from the outside)

Cool design. Good temperatures at low fan gear 1200rpm where e.g. tuff gaming has 1500rpm and temperatures higher and is louder. In my opinion, it is a good choice and the pheonix gs version is even better because it has 8 heat pipes.

The cooling system performance and noise level are really nice! By the way does this card have any coil whine?

sorry for spam. can i suggest additional test? i want to use custom fan curve where i set rpm to lowest before it trigger fan stop. it usually is 25%. the thing i want u to test is noise level on that lowest rpm. this is actually critical in decision making on what gpu i will pick. this is my curve. 25% is very silent for me, but it is 600rpm. the Fan Stop term hides the truth...

just got this card, I do not recommend, very noisy at lowest rpm. big thumb down for techpowerup for such a bad review.

I bought the Phoenix non GS version and I can confirm that fans are noisy, especialy at lower rpm. There is some sort of whine sound comming from the fans (its not the coil whine) and when you touch the backplate you can feel vibrations.

From what I see the non GS version is using the same cooler like GS but it has a power limit on 285W

same issue. they used some shitty fans that are noisy even at lowest rpm but the worst thing is some annoying, weird noise coming probably from fan’s bearing. here is a video of the same issue from someone else that i found (my copy is even worse):
. from what ive seen they use these fans in other models such as Gainward Panther or Palit GamingPro/JetStream so i would highly avoid all of them if your pc is close to you and you are sensitive to this type of sounds. other than that the card is great. cooling performance is top tier, card has nice design with rgb lightning and the price is just slightly above msrp (at least here). unfortunately will have to return it because of the sounds.

I'm very confused. How is it possible that you got a louder fan? Is it coil whine?

Have you tried this?

Can anyone tell me if the RGB has the option to change the brightness? I find that most RGB is too bright so I like to turn down the brightness

looks like yes didnt know. my previous card had 25% but it is from 2016.
That fan curve screenshot is for a card from 2016? I thought it's for your new Phantom card?

Does the noise go away when you stop the fans with your fingers?

i already returned the card. i can tell that noise goes away in fanstop. when it was starting i could hear weird resonance.
yes that curve screen shot is for msi 1060 gaming x. such a curve for gainward is useless. i posted it before i got gainward, i was considering what card i should buy.
on old card i can have 600 rpm on idle and it is silent, and i can keep it on high temperature. on gainward lowest rpm is 1150 which is very noisy comparing to 600.
i hope to get msi 4070tis gaming x trio white, i got info it have 1000rpm at lowest. all other cards have 1200. sadge.

All GeForce 40 cards have minimum fan speed % of 30%. But yes, depending on the fan design, some can reach very low RPM at 30% of course

Just received mine. Overall it is absurdly quiet and cool but unfortunately I did encounter the issue that everyone on this thread was talking about. One of the fans has a fairly loud resonant hum at the lowest rpm. It would be really annoying but thankfully the Gainward software allows you to control over the individual fans (kind of, it gives you 2 controls, with one controlling 1 fan and the other controlling 2 fans together). So essentially what I done was increase the minimum speed of that one problematic fan to 1272rpm and then the resonance completely disappears. This does mean the GPU is ever so slightly louder at minimum speed but I left the other 2 fans at their default minimum speed of ~1150rpm because they don't have the humming issue so overall the GPU is still whisper quiet and I'm very happy with the noise of this GPU. I'd probably be frustrated if I had to increase the minimum speed of every fan, but thankfully I only needed to change the one and it's honestly barely even noticeable.

Temps are VERY good. Like I don't think I've seen it above 60 yet even at 100% gpu usage. It usually maintains a solid 53-55 during AAA gaming, which is even more impressive because my case cooling is pretty average.

Coil whine is pretty much non existant on my unit. Even on 3D Mark Sky Diver with 700+ fps there's only a slight coil whine (which is to be expected at that framerate). During normal gaming at 200fps there's no coil whine.

The RGB is very nice, with good customization in the software including brightness controls which some manufacturers don't include for some bizarre reason (looking at you Zotac).

Overall I'm happy with the card and it is very quiet but it is silly that one of the fans is actually quieter at 1272rpm than it is at 1150rpm. That resonant humming makes using 1150rpm a complete no-go. It's very distracting but thankfully in my case I was able to solve it easily. One potential worry is that this could change in the future, perhaps worsening and maybe even becoming an issue for all the fans.

Hi, I've got the non GS Version of this card last week and can confirm the humming. It's especially annoying since the card ist very cool and stays in zero-fan mode almost all the time so the difference is very noticeable.
Bought the card because of the review and will probably returning it because the rest of the system is very quiet - just like in the video posted above.
