So what game do you think deserves this title?

I'll go first: Indiana Jones and the great circle

Haven't played any of the new games, based on lots of reviews, i think Indiana Jones And The Great Circle will be the game of the year

Life is Strange: Double Exposure <3

Ignore that it uses UE5 and runs like shit, I liked the game itself.

I put like 650 hours into FM since it came out, for me that is impressive because normally I have the attention span of a fruit fly.

....Forza Motorsport or what? I mean FM5 doesn't say anything to me :D

See? I meant Forza Motorsport but was thinking of FH5 ha..

Its one of my curses.

I mean I was talking that game of the YEAR, I mean, I have Motorsport 4 on Xbox 360 on my shelf

Horizon is a dope game though :)

It is!

With FM, its the tight competition that I like, it is what kept me hooked on Mario Kart for iOS lol :D

I can tell when its time to play because the menu music will start playing in my head haha..

You know when a game has a dope OST when it has also a dope menu music. Doom 3, anyone...? ;)

Having a good OST is a hella good part where it goes for being a good game IMO.

…uhhhh… Factory expansion came out for HotA this January, right? So, HoMM 3 is Game of the Year again. As it is in all years, really.

Worst game of the year? Ehh, too many candidates, shovelware aside. I’ll just go for Concord since I like kicking Sony and goddamn if that didn’t escalate from “we spend half a million on this live service” to “game dead as fuck, servers down” quicker than ever. Failed mobile gachas have longer lifespan.

Astrobot on ps5, the immersion of the dualsense controller is just unbelievable. its truly a shame more companies didn't use all the dualsense features properly.

The best games I played this year are the ones they released in 2021-2023 and actually finished by this time, or brought to playable state.

So yeah... GOTY? I'm not playing that game, the games get released in a too sorry state to give them that credit.

Rogue Trader comes to mind, a pleasant surprise, yet a typical Owlcat game nonetheless.
Silent Hill 2 ranks high. Still didn't finish it though, but yeah, that is definitely a worthy remaster.

Technically 2023. I still am to play that since, hell, I haven’t even finished a full playthrough of WotR yet. They still haven’t finished fixing THAT game. RT launch filled me with enough dread to not even attempt that until they reach whatever will be the final patch. Their games are pretty good, but undercooked as hell. Goddamn Russians totally legit Cypriots.

Helldivers 2

Which one deserves the title? Some indie game like Tiny Glade or such.

Which one will get the title? Some generic UE5 stutterfest, 30FPS at native res, RT'd, PT'd game with beautiful screenshots.

Black myth wukong, followed by shin megami tensei v vengeance coming in close.

I don't have any games released in 2024 because I'm playing games released over a very broad time period. On the other hand, I did try COD on Game Pass which was a torturous failure and quickly kicked into touch.
Frankly, new releases are just too expensive.

The best game, well its from last year, but its so good it deserves the title in 2024 as well. It's the days before... Wait why are you all looking at me like that? W... Why are there suddenly a huge angry mob...

More serious i have not trying many new games of 2024. But among those i have tried will be Stalker 2. But dosent mean it's the best over all game of 2024. Its just the best game i have personaly tried this year.

did you at least play the blops 6 campaign? I never play CoD multiplayer, but the campaigns have always been really decent, even if very short.

Disco Elysium, until it gets dethroned, which at this rate will never happen.

Good question. I couldn't even get the damned game to launch at first and when COD did eventually load, I found the whole interface a confusing mess. The MW campaign only ever loaded correctly when it felt like it, so I ditched the whole lot.
I have MW2&3 from ages ago anyway, so that's fine with me.

Not a single 10/10 experience for me this year that I could say is GOTY without any reservations, but my top would be Balatro and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of The Goddess.
Metaphor: Refantazio has the best story, absolutely sensational for a videogame, absolutely worth playing the game through for, but the game itself gets in the way of enjoying it at times.

Had high hopes for STALKER2 but it's a bit empty and unfinished in current state and the way the story dismissively treats its most interesting characters and themes rubbed me the wrong way.

If I can include rereleases then SMTV:V beats everything else I mentioned.

Wukong is the only game worth playing released this year. Dry pickings, with the whole industry on the verge of collapse due to their poor choices and tendency to pander to tourists. I say, let it crash - and it will start with Ubisoft's imminent bankruptcy. They don't have enough cash to be solvent through 2025.

@Dr. Dro
At TGA they were talking about how thousands of developers in the industry have lost their jobs over the past few years.

It clearly wasn’t enough.

This might sound fairly dark of me, but yeah, maybe make good games and/or don’t sell your studios off to giant corpos and then be surprised when those giant corpos do what they always do. Also, might I suggest NOT pumping hundreds of thousands into games to make them completely unsustainable if the sales aren’t literally GTA tier and/or the game is a soulless life service? The whole pattern of “genre pops off/trend pops off/gaming boomed during Covid - we hired a shitton of people - make a game costing a bajillion due to this - game bombs because bad - fire a shitton of people - try again” is just baffling. Swen was right in his speech - the recipe to success is really fucking simple, but those AAA studios seem to be clueless. Let them burn.
