Games Not Smooth and Tiny FPS Drops.

Download LatencyMon and check your latency see if and where could be your potential problem......

Two modules.

Thats fine. I ask because sometimes some people say 8 or 16GB but only have 1x8 or 1x16GB plugged in and this could cause stuttering or poor performance in general.

mismatched sticks of ram can also cause issues as well if not set up correctly.

You need to use a registry tweak to show "nonpresentdevices" in hardware properties (if they werent present they wouldn't show under this, caused troubles in past)

Here's a short video I took trying to show the issue. As you can see (I hope) from the video, it looks very choppy when I look around. It's like my mouse is getting caught on the trees and goes slower when I look at them, hard to explain.

Out of curiosity. Try disabling any firewall or antivirus software before running the game again.

Also try temporarily disabling or turning off any software that runs and monitors things in the background. Even MSI afterburner if you have running.

Sometimes monitoring software have been known to cause stuttering. You can turn everything back on once youve tried it.

---

Have you tried disabling xbox game mode in Win10 or Focus Assist? --- Both of them have been known to cause issues if not set up correctly. I have both these features turned off.

Do I do this when playing a game or doesn't it matter?
Yeah play the game or do usual things like watch youtube + play the game and leave latencymon open&running at least for 20-30 min.....and if your latency is in the "green" then you are ok but if your latency goes in "red" then you have problem and latencyMon should report what is the possible issue

That is a bit more curious though, in the video we can clearly see you have a decent framerate and the frametimes are very even, almost a flat line. Yet you say it feels stuttery, something thats hard to see on video quite often.
But obviously there is no hickups in actually rendering the game, at least not from what it reports to you.
Otherwise we would see clear framerate dips or spikes in the frametime graph you have in the upper left corner, yet it is as I said, almost flat.
When I had my problem it would have massive spikes every now and then, which is when my stuttering occurred of course. Kinda like the first spike you see when you tab in to the game, I had those spikes every like 50-55ms.

You said this has been happening for a while, but not always? How long ago did it start? Do you happen to remember if it was during a update of drivers or the like? Have you tried older drivers to see if it makes a difference?

How do I go about doing that?

Just tried all these and nope, no change. When you say monitoring software what do you mean exactly? Are there any Windows processes I need to be aware of?

Just ran it for half hour playing a game and looks all good so we are clear on that front.

I definitely do get the big spikes like yourself, if I'd have recorded for long enough you'd have seen them. This was more showing off the choppy nature of the gameplay but I don't know how well it comes across in a recording. It just breaks any immersion for me, some people might not even notice I guess but when I spend a lot of money on something I want it to work to it's maximum potential and not just settle for whatever.

It's been happening for aslong as I remember. I pretty much have a complete new build now apart from the case and it's still happening, I don't understand.

Thats a very unique and obvious stutter because system audio stutters with it - video only stutters are something else

That's also a really uncommon issue, just widely reported.. i cant reproduce it on any of my ryzens here (1400, 2700x, 3700x, 5800x)

That looks fine - makes me feel it's an issue with your monitor and its settings

Input lag could be an issue too - what mouse are you using? how is it connected? Wired, wireless, bluetooth, USB hub, direct to mainboard, etc

Will order a new DP cable just in case it's that. What sort of thing should I be looking out for?
The quality DP cables can be easily recognised from their cable width. The fat ones are the best almost surely.

This looks like a bog standard performance issue. The stutter is there because of a very wide FOV setting and overall performance seems to be low.

Consider that you render in screen space and the space you see is very big. You can verify if this has an influence by dropping your FOV setting to minimum.

Monitor desync is another option. What FPS are you seeing in that sequence?

144Hz display and you're running game at 70ish fps? Could be running into LFC range where it constantly switches between >72-144 Hz or double of current fps when you dip below 72 fps. On my old 1060 I saw that in Forza Horizon 5, game could pull off 90 fps but there were occasional dips below 72 fps, I could notice the stutter when LFC kicked in. Cap the game at 70 fps and see if situation improves.
