Thinking about Razer basilisk ( Lots of 3rd party Linux alts for synapse) but want 2nd opinion on it. Needs to work great in Linux and map buttons for DAW and games

Preferring under 90USD..

Razer in my experience sucks in build quality, but the linux support is there. Just be prepared to replace often because the switches are so-so.

Some older ROCCAT options have third-party Linux support too, but the newer models do not. Plus they got aquired by Turtle Beach, which doesn't give me warm fuzzies anymore.

You can basically see ROCCAT's linux support library here:

Also, any mouse with an onboard EEPROM to store configs can sort of be used under linux by running a virtualbox windows and configuring it, and leaving it. Not ideal, but an option.

Razer build quality is in the toilet ATM. Their mice break easily and quickly. Especially the buttons.

Synapse is annoying spyware and bloatware that increases startup time.

Get another brand and ensure the mouse stores the profile on its onboard memory so drivers aren't needed. My Logitech G Pro does that.

I was also gunna suggest a mouse with hardware settings (G pro here as well) that you can save to, and just not need the software or OS any longer.

G pro has a weirdly located profile button under the mouse, but that can suffice for changing hardware profiles for your needs i guess

I need to map buttons to my DAW or games and have the software switch for me. Most onboard only had generic game ones for a couple genres.

And the onboard thing still needs setup in windows.. and I'm not touching that again.

This one isn't going to apply on linux. Otherwise agree.

Yes and I'll be using one of the 6 alts so...

Linux has 6 alts for synapse..

yeah, the razer linux support is top notch, no denying that.

There must be plenty of 3rd party homebrew apps that will let you customize buttons on Linux.
