Hello everyone, I recently purchased xbox game pass ultimate so I could play Gears 5 early, however the game flat out refuses to launch and I get file system error (-2015295486). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice now with the same result.

I also checked the system event viewer and I see this error 0x87E10802: Cannot create the process for package Microsoft.HalifaxBaseGame_1.1.56.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe because an error was encountered while preparing for activation. [LaunchProcess], which is also related to the crashing.

Thank you.

Well........ that how it is every time..... sooo i'm not surprised,

but have you tried launching the Xbox App and then open the game (i have seen that issue 2 times now it is a couple of years sins but maybe it is still a thing), and one time i had som regional settings on my windows that was causing troubles check that they are correct for your region (i actually think that was with the last GOW i had that issue)

Yes, I have tried launching the game through both the xbox app and windows 10 store. Same result. I will check my region settings but im certain they are set for the US.

Windows is also fully up to date as well.

The PC port launches on September 9th according to steam, now am not sure if the game pass release is the same but maybe it has to do something with the game not unlocking yet to play

He's on Game Pass Ultimate, which unlocked yesterday.

So any advice or steps I should try?

Contact microsoft and game dev

I had this problem with Forza games and the solution was to launch Xbox Console Companion first and make sure it's running always in the background to run UWP games.

Tried that, didnt work, funny thing is other microsoft games work just fine, such as gears 1 and 4 and forza apex all load up without issue.

Ok other than that what would you suggest?

Well games only get fixed if reported correctly- saying something here doesn't let ms or game devs know, they really don't care about these websites.

Upate: i re downloaded the game is working fine now.

Thanks.

That's good news!
It's a pity that UWP games, unlike Win32 games, don't have more flexibility in terms of install location, locating the game if you've forgotten where you put it and more importantly, checking the integrity of the install. These kinds of aspects are of course available on Steam and some other platforms, not to mention the option of moving the install to another folder or drive.
There are ways around it, but generally speaking, I always need to download a UWP game again after a new Windows install.

Some Microsoft games have to be downloaded again. I have Gears of War 4 but I haven't tried to play it yet. I remember that the DL size that MS said it was stopped about 20 GB before that size listed. It didn't say install size. It just said DL size. I think the MS store just cuts you off sometimes and you don't get the full game.

The 2 Gears of War games that I bought downloaded automatically to my 4TB hardrive and not the boot SSD and I think I know why. I installed the client on the HDD. Someone was saying here a while back that MS has an app that lets you move the folder to another drive if it downloads to your C: drive.

No need for app, its built in Windows. Open Settings, Programs, click on the UWP app and choose Move, then select the disk you want. Not sure of exact setting names in English, PC I am writing from is on different locale.

Yeah you can change the default install location, but the entire gaming functionality is bs. There should be an option to verify integrity of game files, just like with steam. Instead the only "solution" is to redownload the entire game, which in case of Gears 5 is what? 60-100 GB?
