I have purchased recently the new GeCube HD4870 and i tried to install it in my new PC. I have used the Catalyst 8.6 Hotfix. The problem is that every time i tried to play a game (COD4 or Grid or GOW), the screen freezes, but without any BSOD. After some re-installs of the drivers, without any success, i decided to format my Vista 32bit and install everything from scratch. Now i can run successfully both 3DMark06 and Vantage, but again when i tried to play a game, same thing happens.
Some people told that maybe there is an incompatibility with the motherboard, which is of course weird, because it is a CrossFire one and it suppose to work with ATI products. I am not sure if that is the case, but i have tried the graphic card and the PSU to the other two PC's that i have, one with the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe nForce4 mobo and the other with the ASUS P5N-E SLI nForce650i mobo and everything worked fine (both games and benchmarks). So, i assume that neither the card or the PSU have hardware malfunction.
So, i am asking, does anyone else have similar problems with the combination of the card + the mobo and is there any solution to my problem?
Thank you

My PC specs are:
ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFiAP x48 (BIOS 402)
Intel C2D E8400,
TeamGroup Xtreem 2x1GB DDR3 1600
2 x WD Raptor 74GB WD740GD (RAID 0) and 4 more HDD
2 x DVD-RW
TT Toughpower 1500W
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

Try the drivers from the cd. ;)

Direct X updated? Everything else updated, like chipset drivers, windows update etc?

I have tried the CD drivers, but same problem.
Everything is updated through Windows Update and also the drivers of the chipset are updates with the new ones from ASUS site.

erocker i have tried the new update of the DirectX and the new 8.7 beta , but with the same results. FFS!!! Is there any way to make it work?

topdim
i have the same problem, it goes like this
if you play a game like crysis, the screen goes blank, then sound stops and reboots?

and can you check Problem Reports and Solutions?
type wercon.exe in search start (startmenu) and enter

btw: put your system specs here

wiak, no it doesn't go black and restarts, although i haven't left it, enough to see, if it will restart the PC. It just freezes the image and the sound, in COD4, GOW and Grid, which are all the games that i have tried.

I think your 1.5KW PSU might be under powering your system....JK there.

What are your temps getting to at a full load? Run the ATI artifact tool and watch the temps with GPUz...make sure to select the refresh box so that you can see the real time temps.

The temp goes from idle 80C to 88C when i scan for artifacts in ATITool 0.27. So i think it is normal. As for the under powering that you are mentioning, i don't think that it the case here, because the other 2 computer that, i have tested both the 4870+PSU, where lower in watt requirements.
I believe that the problem in my case, is the combination of the mobo+4870 BIOS or drivers.
