Geforce GTX - undervolting impossible?

Hey guys,

I've just switched from an AMD card to a cheap and used Nvidia GTX 1650. First thing I wanted to do is apply a slight undervolt because the fan is quite noisy.

When I started up Afterburner the voltage curve has been greyed out. I've checked my settings and then google to find comments on how any reduction of voltage is prohibited by Nvidia. Is that true or are the posts I've read about this software lock outdated?

Never had a problem in the past (last Nvidia card was a GTX 1080 but I gave that to a younger family member, avid gamer) with undervolting, it's even part of the driver for AMD cards. I'd say its ridiculous to restrict the use of a GPU that has no more warranty and that you've bought with hard earned money.

Is there an recommendable alternative to Afterburner to undervolt my card?

Which card is it exactly? Did you check Unlock voltage control in the settings?
It should work just fine unless it's some obscure model that doesn't have software voltage control.

Worst case you can do it the old fashioned way by turning down the power limit while increasing the frequency.

OK I don't have the 1650 but my 1660 Super is allowed to undervolt as does every other Nvidia and AMD card I have (lol except the RX 6400 but it's already undervolted from the factory). Unfortunately I'm not near any of those cards right now but maybe you need to unlock undervolting in Afterburner's Settings in the General Tab. Damn, it's been awhile since I needed to find that.

Unlock voltage control in there should do it. You may need to Enable some of the settings directly above that too if they're not checked already, like Enabling the low-level IO driver and hardware access.

I happened to see this. Is it by any chance a GTX 1650 OEM HP?

Ctrl+F on MSI afterburner for curve editor doesn't work?

Thanks for your replies. The unlock and monitor voltage settings are turned on, but voltage still can't be modified.

It's like massdeth mentioned: the slider allows for voltage increases only.

The voltage curve, which I've used since my GeForce 970, is greyed out and can't be tinkered with. Not sure what's going on.

The card is a GeForce GTX 1650 Pegasus by Gainward. I've undervolted other GeForce GPUs with voltage curves in afterburner in the past and have never seen this option greyed out.

So far I've tried other versions of afterburner and reinstalling + restarting without success. I'm on the most recent Nvidia driver.

it is probably locked at bios level by manufacturer. try to see if there is a more recent official firmware in database, I don't recommend a crossflash. or if someone who skilled helps you.

Thanks for that advice, I'll do that. It might be just that. I see what I can do with a more recent firmware - it would not be much of a loss because the card was 45 Euro and runs the games which I love. It would be nice to tinker with it though. Thanks everybody for your answers.

Why not just use Fan Control to make a custom fan curve?
