Get ready to open your wallets people

Maybe in 6 months, once certain priorities are addressed in this thing called life. It will be a Radeon, not sure which yet.

Personally I'm in the market to replace my ageing RX 580,but I'm not moving a single coin until after the new Radeon cards are out in the market for a while over here. My hope is the market will have calmed down by then and prices will be less crazy, plus having more GPU variety to pick from. It's not like I'm gunning for a 5080/5090 anyway so I'm not going to validate any pricing that's too crazy
My 1060 couldn't agree more.

hahahaha no

its always fun to look back 10 years and laugh "clowns waited in line for days and paid $3000+ for that card, can you believe it.."

I recalled back to the old days when there was no Micro Center, no Newegg or Amazon, just a bunch of guys behind folding tables in a rented Knights of Columbus hall on a Saturday afternoon. You could build an entire PC less the monitor for more or less the cash you had in your wallet that day -- it wasn't a longer term existential financial decision like it is now, with the shithead in the leather jacket up on a stage gloating over how $10,000 separates the low-rent trash from the "real" enthusiasts.

And then we find out that all of those older games with PhysX that we still enjoy playing from time to time will now no longer work like they used to, because fuck you.

It galls me to no end how all of us supported these companies all these years, built them up to what they are today, and this is the thanks we get now. Remember when technology and mass production lowered prices to consumers? Now supply is artificially constrained to extort every last nickel out of them instead.

I'm done with this. If AMD can produce a Radeon card that more or less matches the 4090, that will be my final hardware purchase, and the 4090 will go in the Alder Lake box. I'm getting old and just don't care enough any longer.

Tbh, that was a relatively short timespan, starting with the second half of the 90s. PCs have existed since the 80s and they were mighty expensive back then, too.

So..wait? you have 4090? What exactly it can't do you are lookin into latest GPU releases? I mean if I had a 4090, sure wouldn't look into it :p

they do that at the apple store every year

And while you were waiting to laugh at them, both these groups spent their time enjoying the products. Just sayin'

Fair enough. Just playing devil's advocate a bit for the record. No plans to upgrade here.

True, but each time you upgrade performance improvement is big back then

I hear ya, but the problem every game faces now is the AI need for graphics cards which does there ain't a lot of graphics cards available and might not be anytime soon, some retailers had said that the RTX 50 series launch was worse than the RTX 30 series launch.

Now the used market has start be a shit show several places around the work and with last/current gen also being brought up it looks like if AMD doesn't have over 100.000 cards in stock in almost every country it will look like a paper launch for AMD as well :(

I am specially hyped for this series because when the RX 6000 series launched I was ready had money for the first time in my live to buy a card on release but they were all gone almost before they came online and the story might continue with the RX 9000 series.

I sold my RTX 4070 last month because I was tired of Nvidia's drivers and I been hoping to get a RX 9070 XT but with the prices leaked I might need to go RX 7800/7900 XT since XTX might not be worth it and ain't really much in stock for the models I want.

The GRE has gotten worse pricing than the 7900 XT here and the few that has been for sale I tried to buy but sellers suddenly shut up about want to sell when you ask if there is a receipt, and if they have more photos of the card than like a generic photo so all has been a bust for me so far :(

I been rocking my Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro+ Special Edition which is my backup card and since I been replaying Wolfenstein the frame has been solid but newer games might not since AMD stopped the driver support.

Of course. But how many years separated 8088 from 80286? 80286 from 80386?

Why would you "open your wallet" if the only things you find are all overpriced garbage? Is your current PC so bad that you need that shiny new GPU right now? Or is it the FOMO factor speaking?

Right, that's why we vote with our wallet.

@AusWolf ...... Ive been out of the game from between 2021 and 2024 . So when i began researching new Components i was surprised the rdna 5700xt was V-average to play games when i got back into it. I

think my point is in this thread the Geforce Cuda cores? ... and huge Ram are now being used for LLMs Ai models /and not so much gaming by people. IS that a fair enough comment? So this could be part of the demand. Back in 2012 / 2016 the Radeon was the go-to card for MH/s mining and remember the shit over that , correct if im wrong, because im actually interested to understand why people would pay these crazy Prices for GPUs when the stats from even :lovetpu: show that u dont need a card for that much cash to play at Frickin high res! Please try to realize im trying to catch up :)

Ah, I see. :)

Well, you missed a bit. We had COVID, we had mining, we now have the AI craze, we have more RT games, and we have Nvidia shitting out GPUs left and right under the Ti, Super, and Ti Super monikers, making people believe that they're getting so much better value than ever before, when in fact, they're being ripped off more than ever before. X90 cards are basically SLi or CF replacements, totally not needed for a regular gamer. We're also just at a series launch with artificial scarcity of cards created by Nvidia to mark up the prices even further. AMD, on the other hand, is overly secretive of RDNA 4. The official launch is dated for 28th Feb, with availability god knows when. Oh, and it's midrange only, high-end RDNA 4 is not coming.

This is where we're at. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

thanks for the reply, that's a classic / shitting out GPUs  which it looks like from my end too because when I talked to the PC guy at my store, both he and his collogue Only recommended Nvidia Geforce ..:confused::confused: not Radeon? Maybe its like a Car dealership now .....

Everybody will recommend GeForce because of "features".

Nobody will recommend Radeon, even if it's cheaper at the targeted raster performance point. Nvidia has established itself as "the luxury brand" in people's heads, just like Apple, even though there's absolutely nothing luxurious about a GPU.

At the end of the day, if you're a gamer, and you don't care about ray tracing, then it doesn't matter which brand you buy. Just get the best bang for your buck. Oh, and don't read / watch review conclusions. They're all full of crap these days. Just look at the performance charts and decide for yourself.

PhysX x86 dropped, is there any x86 Ray-Tracing stuff ?

Doubt it. I'd assume it would all be x64, because most if not all games with RT need to access more than 2 GB of RAM. Better to go X64 for that than play around with PAE and stuff, plus getting any other benefits from x64 compared to x86
