Gigabyte doesn't dip their toes in the water to see if it's cold, they jump right in!

Expanding to peripherals from their outstanding mainboard and graphics card baseline product lineup, Gigabyte has now entered the mobile domain(not cellular).

The newly listed P2532 laptop weighs in with formidable specs:

Slick layout:

A midrange lappy(Model No: 2432) rockin an i5 but with a measly 1366 x 768 display was also announced. Lastly a tablet(model no: S1080) was unveiled, a Windows 7 tablet powered with an Atom N550, 2GB ram, 320GB hdd, decent onboard gpu, and USB 3.0/2.0. Nicely powered and nicely designed:

Big year for Gigabyte!

Didn't they always have laptops? Or at least barebones laptops?

about time, if their laptops are as good as their mobo, they'll go up just like Asus, Dell has something to worry about now in the west.

Um.... No, there are LOADS of brands that manufacture laptops and have them shipped/sold in the west. Asus & DELL has always had something to worry about.

but some people especially some of the older folk go with dell as they can call up support if something goes wrong and they will send someone over to fix it or at least pick it up for an RTB.

you talk as if Asus and DELL are the only companies that make laptops

theres: Toshba, IBM, BenQ, Lenovo, MSI, Sony, CompaQ, HP, Acer, Samsung. and a few more and they are all readily available to buy from western markets

That is exactly my point, yes they all are western company and honestly they make more than 70% profit on US/canadian consumer, and not only old folks, but many major companies and schools support dell as well, but if more company offer good products everyone with a sense will buy them, i'm not saying gigabyte will be best, but if the product is good and above average (which dell already has, average products) it will go with it, i mean how many forum user have bought their new gaming PC stright from Dell/HP/Gateway, we usually build them ourselves because the parts end up being cheaper, we can get better products with future we want rather than future we were given. i know it doesn't apply to laptops, but if company's reputation follows to all of their products many consumer will go with it like Asus/Gigbyte/MSI.

Dell is still biggest laptop maker in the world but over time it will be leveled with other companies. and with today's technological race i doubt it will be long.

then what you are on about isnt about competition, but about brand loyalty. I have seen schools and colleges that run nothing but dell machines. but at the same time I have seen a lot of schools and colleges run HP or CompaQ machines.

Most schools and colleges also have their own onsite tech who has no links with the OEM.

also this is a bout laptops. as the topic here is about Gigabyte moving into the laptop market.

Support obviously wont be the same as Dell's, HP's, IBM, CompaQ or Alienware. because Gigabyte is still an asian company.

some of the bigger companies such as Sony and Asus do have repair centers in the UK. im not sure about the rest of the other Asian brands

Gigabyte has had laptops for years now. I have a friend with a Gigabyte laptop that is well over a year old. They have had Core 2 Duo laptops, ULV laptops, Atom netbooks, a couple of Atom based tablets, Core iX based laptops (H55 based), so there is little surprise they are coming out with more of them.

Probably distribution within Asia only. Just like BenQ. how many people know that BenQ make laptops too and not just PC screens and projectors?

Dont worry. I'll tell you how mine performs when i go back to get one later this year. (looking forward to dumping this 5year old laptop....)

that being said though.... Hong Kong markets are mainly dominated by Samsung, Sony and Toshiba laptops. doesnt matter where i go, samsung just seems to be EVERYWHERE
