Gigabyte Intros New Cheap DDR3-Based HD 5670 Graphics Card

Gigabyte introduced a new Radeon HD 5670 based graphics card that is intended to be cost-effective. Carrying the model number GV-R567D3-1GI, it makes use of 1 GB of DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5. The 1 GB of memory is clocked at 800 MHz (1600 MHz DDR), installed across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The standard HD 5670 features 1 GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1000 MHz (4000 MHz GDDR5 effective). The HD 5670 GPU is clocked at 775 MHz. Based on the 40 nm Redwood core, it features 400 stream processors. Other features specific to Gigabyte's design include a silent double-slot cooler that makes use of an 80 mm fan, and display connectivity that includes one each of DVI, D-Sub, and a gold-plated HDMI port. Gigabyte did not give out a price, though one can expect it to be a little lower than that of the standard HD 5670.

Since the 1gb DDR5 one's are about 80-90 USD, this one I'm guessing should be priced around 60-70.

Pointless much? Considering the new 6000 series is out, the old 5000 series will drop in price making this one redundant. Especially considering it's only a 5670.

The 5670's are meant for those who can't really afford high-end cards or don't have an adequate power supply and also works well for HTPC.

But the prices of the 6700 series will get down to around that mark eventually anyway, with the 5600 it was supposed to be a cheper version of being at the same price or cheaper now.

yeah, but for today apps 512mb wont be enough even low end card for now has 1gig memory, or nearly 1gig (768mb)

and GTX 460 which is 3x more powerful and has 768MB of memory???

Memory bandwidth will be effected, that's only then about 25GB/s vs 64GB/s that's crap then, better if they use at lest GDDR4.

This is basically a pre-overclocked HD5570. The memory is what makes the difference between a HD5570 and a HD5670.

There are even some HD5570 with GDDR5 around, and those should be a lot faster than this 5670!
