Gigabyte M32U

I paid mint for my 4K gsync 144Hz HDR Acer X27 a while back ... it wasn't until FC5 that I got my socks knocked off with HDR with my recent 3080Ti. I suspect HDR > ray tracing.

Ray Tracing looked amazing in CP77, gave the city a all new level. Is HDR that much of a thing for gaming?

Dont need that newish Gamor Shit, i still use a 1920x1200 NEC from 2009 :p

16:10 is an underappreciated aspect ratio for sure.

First of all sorry for coming a bit late to the party! My hands are currently very full with my newborn/firstborn so I'm either focusing on writing reviews to save myself from a massive backlog or changing diapers. Sometimes both at once
Enjoy it, and the time you have now, because it only gets more and more busy. Mine are now 10 and 13 and I need to take a number just to go to the bathroom and there is a time limit also. :|

Indeed. As someone who uses my PC for CAD, docs and other more production related stuff, with gaming less, I would take a 3:2 monitor if they had one. I used a surface at work for a month, and the 3:2 screen grew on me. Although more 16:10s would also be nice.

I'm trying to keep the size of the color accuracy chart within reason, but yeah, I can definitely experiment with even larger versions in my future monitor reviews. This is actually the first time I'm posting this larger version of the chart; I used to go with the shorter, more concise version of it :) As for the UFO test bars, don't think I'll be posting those, they take away the focus from what's important (the UFO photos themselves) and require quite a bit of explaining. You'll have to trust my results :) I'm taking 10+ photos at every OD/refresh rate setting, until I get the lines as straight as possible. I'm even using the exact camera/slider setup which is recommended by the guy who came up with this testing methodology, Mark Rejhon of Blur Busters.
Oh i know, its just that for future references, that the ufo does not move the same speed when monitors is at a different hertz, so would be nice to know pps.

as for the test bars, its just so we know theyre lined up, i know they can be a little tricky freehanding them, done a few myself just recording a video and exporting the best frame - works very well, issue for me is focus due to my pixel2 not focusing closely :)

maybe remove the datacolor gamma tracking chart, and use the DisplayCal gamma chart instead then?, it shows gamma tracking like Calman does, which imho, is much better!

Thanks for reading my rant, im just a guy whos into monitors

Hi,
I was reading the review and on page 3 it says the depth of the base is 35cm but according to the specs its 24.4cm.

I ordered this monitor, just waiting for it to be delivered.

Any if y'all tried Samsung dex with this monitor? Can you get 60+ fps in 4k? I can get 4k95hz using usb to dp on some monitor, but I'd really like this monitor for the KVM if at least 4k60 works

I cant even get 4K60 reliably off my S22U, what phone are you using dex from?

I'm using a tab s8 ultra and a recently bought an LG32GQ950B. You need OneUI 5, Good Lock, multistar and with the recent update some people are even getting 165hz in 1440p! Best I can do personally is 4k95hz, if the tablet screen is off. When it's on I get 4k60, plenty enough for productivity.

I'm REALLY struggling to get 4k60hz with any usb dock. Seems the issue is that dex only supports DP1.2, and most docks only do 4k60 in dp1.4. I've tested 6 different docks at this point and no luck, some of them being incredibly expensive TB4 hubs. 4k30 is the best I got, which is very crappy for anything but videos.

I'm thinking of returning the LG and getting the m32u. With direct usb c connection I could get 4k60 or more, plus the built in hub and the kvm which I would actually use a lot to switch between my PC. It's only 18w charging speed but that's enough to keep the battery from draining, which is much better than not charging at all with my current setup.

Only thing is, I have no idea if it can even do 4k60 in the first place... hardware support is hella hit and miss with dex. Do you have Good Lock and multistar? You should be able to get at the very least 4k30 with the S22U, it's the same chip and it runs actually faster than mine.

Thanks a million for your help. You have no idea how useful that info would be for me mate!! I would 100% tip you if I could!!

Here is a guide on how to get it setup. Let me know if you can get it working! God bless!

I've used goodlock, they must have updated to unlock more options
The phones/tablets are the limiting factor with this, not the displays

My gigabyte M32QC runs 1440p 165hz or 4k60 (even a chromecast detects 4k60 as an option) yet my S22 ultra with 4K60 capable dongles, defaults to 1080p 60hz

it offers 1080p, 1600x900 and 3840x2160 - that's not a monitor issue, the phone just refuses to support 1440p
It also refuses to change to 4K when i select that option, so reviewers wont spend time testing features on displays that require external software and fiddling to get to work since at any time what works and doesnt work could just change on samsungs whims

Hi, i recently bought this monitor, but is it possible to know exactly how did you calibrate it for the colors? I still feel some colors are not that good and they dont feel good at all if u lower the brightness since it's too high for me when i switch scene to white / black like for example in the evening or night, i come from an Asus 7yo 60hz so imagine if i notice that , i shouldnt since it's a top tier and "new" .
I don't understand how did you calibrated it , can you explain pls? Ty vm

Step one is to make sure you're getting the basics right:
Undo any damage you've done from testing random monitor settings by looking for the factory reset option in your M32U OSD. Start from the beginning! You want "normal" default values before you tinker with settings.
You should be able to distinguish level 1 from black, and none of the higher number bars should be the same.
Go to http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php and check that gamma is somewhere between 2.0 and 2.4.
If you can't make out EVERY SINGLE checkerboard, you have incorrect settings either on your monitor or GPU.
For GPUs, go to your control panel, and ensure you GPU is outputting a full-range, rather than a limited range signal. The M32U is an 8-bit panel so best results in motion will be at 8-bit colour depth, however, it supports 10-bit with dithering, useful if you intent to do fine gradient work on static images in Photoshop or similar.
Go back and check those lagom.nl links again, especially the first one (contrast) - there's a reason it's the first one!

Step 2 is to tune the display itself:

For the display, I don't have an M32U but RTINGS have a post-calbration section in their review and offer a downloadable ICC profile (optional) as well as recommended settings for gamma and colour balance. They suggest creating a custom profile with brightness 15, contrast 50, gamma 2.2, and RGB values at 97-100-99 (so I guess the display is a little too warm by default)
